Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Isn’t it ironic…

That my manager wants us to “think outside the box”; but is requiring us to return to the status quo of working in a box 3 days per week??? 😏

FRTO and every single person in Hudson Yards. Everyone. Single. One.

Zoom requiring workers to RTO is ironic. Doing what you're asked and paid for, not so much - it's 'my house my rules' and 'what have you done for me today'.

I don't have a box anymore, I have a VDI.

Where is the COO and risk when making these decisions? If something wipes out one hub then the company’s daily productivity will be significantly harmed during the recovery. (Profits!) That’s a huge risk.

If you see something say something.

RTO has nothing to do with performance, nor with "collaboration" as all the emails suggest. If it was about collaboration, then they would actually put the additional effort into co-locating teams, instead of just saying "go ahead and sit anywhere in this 3 acres of desk space", without consideration for where your teammates may be sitting across those same 3 acres. RTO is about CRE. The CRE market is teetering on the edge due to a massive supply glut of unutilized commercial square footage. Reduced occupancy rates also increase insurance premiums for commercial floor space, so there are potential cost savings in Insurance premiums by herding all the cattle into a limited number of runs. Also: This push for RTO is not just Wells Fargo. Look in the press: Every large company is jumping on the "Where you work is more important than the value of your work output" bandwagon, just as WeWork is going belly-up in real time (remember them? The ones who were going to "re-think and revolutionize" the commercial workplace experience?) Everything about RTO is about compartmentalization. Compartmentalize people, and you compartmentalize costs. Compartmentalize costs, and you compartmentalize thinking. Compartmentalize thinking, and you create thinner margins out of your already too-thin margins. RTO is the emblematic global death of Blue Ocean Strategy; which is ok, because Blue Oceans never existed in the Financial Services sector, anyway. This sector is a polluted ocean (Which presents an interesting coincidence, seeing as how Hudson Yards is the focal point of this effort within Wells, sitting right on the shores of the most polluted US waterway).

It’s like you think your manager implemented RTO on their own and you blame them for it

get over it and get back to the office. If you don't like it then find a new place to work that will allow 100% remote. And by the way, it's less your manager and more more the leadership above them. Your managers is just doing their job which includes enforcing the in office mandate.
