Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Are other departments allowed to call India??

It’s beyond belief, but we are not allowed to call them - don’t even have a phone #.

I’m in an area where certain work is time sensitive and involves a lot of money. We are also working with archaic systems that haven’t kept up with industry changes and result in complicated problems which can only be fixed manually. It takes a long time to try to spell out the problem and the work-arounds in e-mail. And then we are at our India counterpart’s mercy as to when and if they e-mail back. It involves a lot of going back and forth over for e-mail for hours when it could potentially be resolved in 10 minutes on the phone (if everyone can understand each other.)

Errors don’t get fixed before the system cut-off, causing problems for our clients. Managers say they empathize-and act as if it’s out of their hands. (They also get an attitude sometimes that they don’t want to keep hearing about the problems.)

Where is the common sense? I don’t honestly know how we stay in business.

Use email instead of calling. That way there is a slightly better chance of understanding what they are saying

Also a very slightly better chance of holding them accountable

Still almost zero chance of it being done correctly the first time around though

I have daily standups with my india team, sounds more like an id--tic management policy on your side.

Use Teams. I’m on the phone with India staff every day. Ge-z.

OP here. Appreciate the suggestions. We are on the phones all day with everyone except India. (Our department is a service/processing area.). Management is adamant that we can only communicate with India via email. Never a team call or zoom. My impression was that only the higher-ups over there are allowed to get on the phone. I thought it was this way through the whole bank and was possibly a language barrier issue. But maybe they don’t have phones and are supposed to be just kicking out the work. You’ve told me what I need to know. Thank you!

As others have said, it's been years since I've called anyone on the phone. MS Teams has been great for when I need live chat or a live voice call. I've had a number of Teams voice calls with our India staff. Not sure why you haven't been able to do the same.

Managers don't want to hear about the problems any more because it hurts their ability to tout how successful offshoring is.

You are not allowed to call them. Very stupid and lame. Charlie must be too cheap

Just email them and ask for a cell phone or contact number? I don’t think it’s an issue to call it might even save you time as mentioned. I also use Skype or Microsoft teams to place calls if needed.
