Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T's best days are in the past

People who think staying is a good idea because this will usher in better times for the company are id--ts. This is another failed move from incompetent leadership that destroyed this company in the first place and you think it's some genius plot that will take AT&T back into our glory days? Don't make me laugh.

"Where else are you going to go when you have outdated skills?"

Please enlighten us as to what type of skills you have that make you so invaluable to AT&T...

You do realize that a large chunk of the managers affected are engineers right?

I'm staying for MR75 and $40K/year increase after that.

I'm well over the retirement age for full social security, but am hanging around for severance and well! Everyone I know before me was lucky enough to be offered a package, but I'm not sure if that will ever happen again. Still hoping, but my patience is running out!

Management. 25+ years. Staying for severance. That’s it. I feel I am owed that, and. I’m not willing to leave it on table. If there’s an opportunity to volunteer to go this year, I will take it. Too young to stop working. I have a couple of potential landing spots lined up. My LinkedIn and resume have been updated all along, I have a degree and professional certification. I have been contacted numerous times by recruiters and have a solid network. There are jobs out there. Good jobs, with better benefits (that’s a low bar at this point) and similar salary to start.

Some, like me, stay until MR75 and then will leave for greener pastures.
I cannot see staying here a day longer than necessary. I’ve been offered $60k more a year than I make here. Once the date hits, it’ll be time to “exit stage left”.

I wouldn't say most stay because of no other career options. Some of us can easily land another job if we so choose. However, when you have invested years with a company under the guise of pension and benefits, you want to see the payoff.

Many of us were hired when retirement benefits were great. Sure, companies have to make policy changes etc when it comes to that stuff, but generally senior people would be grandfathered in.

Well, the company changed all the rules and axed all the benefits. So, the main thing we have left is a pension, and paid time off. Those two things alone are still pretty valuable and are enough to make most people stay a bit longer.

Anyone who hasn't put in the time and effort would have a hard time understanding.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with this post! Most stay since they have no better career option.
