Anyone think their manager has been holding worker(s) back from layoff for their own benefit? Either to keep their number of direct reports at magic number 7 or because that individual's work history can help fill knowledge gaps for offshore/new people?
Despite continuing to be remote (for 10 yrs) and the first on my team to be offered severance (pre-pandemic for location strategy), now I remain as the last person standing while everyone I worked with is laid off (despite those workers living in areas where existing WF workers still go into offices).
Not looking for sympathy, more or less at wit's end. Couldn't be any less productive and not always by choice. I'm treated as an afterthought, once in a while someone will pick my brain for help. WF has created a situation where I am so under-utilized and bored that I can work a second job without any stress.
I miss meetings, say "no" to new work, never engage with anyone, disappear whenever I want. No one cares. It's really crazy how long this has been going on.
Either the level of incompetence at the top is much worse than we already know it is or my manager has been purposely ignoring my direct and indirect pleas to be on the next layoff train.
