Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Used to be so good

When I first started with Ameritech it was so different. I received a welcome basket at home the day before I started there with all kinds of goodies. Signing bonus and thousands for a training bonus each year. Lunch room stocked with free coffee and tea, etc.. It saddens me to see what this company has become. Why does everything have to boil down to money and politics? :(

My boss won’t buy us headsets in a call center with low walls. We can’t hear the customers calling and they tell us we have too much background noise. So it’s easier not to answer or “accidentally” hang up. Where’s the free coffee and bagels at again?

“…then the first aid kit was no longer stocked…”

Well to be fair, people just looted those things and brought the stuff home.

First the free coffee was taken away, then the first aid kit was no longer stocked. I knew then that we were going the wrong way. About 2005.

It seems like the good companies to work for are usually small to mid-size business. Corporate America has become nothing more than a greed machine with little or no concern for their employees. An employee working for corporate America is just an easily replaceable number, and they're proud of this.

I would advise finding an employer who is big enough to be viable with good benefits, yet small enough it doesn't have to answer to stock investors.

When did you finally realize it was the end?

It's the same with all companies. Kinda like a bell curve, you came in at the high point of the curve. You are now on the backside going down, down, down!
