Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Left Wells Fargo to come back…

I left for what I thought was a better paying job, but the catch is they don’t offer vision or dental. I immediately asked my old branch manager if I could come back and she said her and the DM agree they would love to have me back. I asked her what I got on my mid year review out of curiosity. Her response, “inconsistently meets.” This is after she puts me in charge all the time while she’s on PTO. Rocking and carrying the team in NPS and taking on additional duties. Should I even come back at this point? It’s pretty disheartening to know I busted my butt just to get an inconsistently meets. I’ve never been rated so poorly in my work performance till I worked for Wells Fargo. I’m just so torn on what to do. If I stay at my new job I have the potential to move up, but I only get medical, pto, and 401k. If I come back to Wells Fargo I’m just the work horse who gets crapped on. Any advice would be appreciated. I’m just a struggling millennial just trying to level up in my career, man. At this point, I just feel like I'm failing…

I worked at WF 20 years and left and would never go back. The executive leadership is cr-p there under Charlie and WF is getting a bad reputation and it is not a stable environment or a good culture! It’s the worst it’s ever been!!! Stay where you’re at or look elsewhere!!!

The stress of working here is not worth it.

This happened to one of my ex-colleagues too. Since each larger team needs to assign a certain amount of not meets by policy, managers tend to do it to people who are leaving/have left, so they don't have to worry about pi----g off current direct reports. Makes sense but not ethical imo.

@sim+1nUqhNFy. They usually survive & the good ones end up leaving.

@ovd+1nUqhNFy I didn’t even really think about that. I just figured she was upset that her work horse was leaving and rated me that out of spite. It would make sense though. Nothing surprises me at Wells Fargo. From what I heard she’s known for having 100% turnover so I’m pretty surprised she’s lasted as long as she has with the company.

Your post raises a valid point for anyone either resigning or who was laid off. If managers are putting invalid inconsistently meets on exiting employees' reviews, this definitely has an impact on their perception if those people ever want to come back to the bank, either in hiring or once they are back in their review history, which any manager can pull up. Just another drawback to working for an unethical company.

As others have said, vision and dental are nearly worthless here. Each costs you money out of your paycheck and pays out extremely low limits per year. I did the math once and I think Wells Fargo's vision and dental is only worth something like $200/year versus just paying yourself, especially since many optometrists and dentists give a cash discount if you don't have insurance.

No one should ever switch employers based on vision and dental.

After having a night to think on it and reading the replies from my post, I’ve decided to stay with my current company after all. I know this is a layoff board but I really do take everyone’s input here to a high regard! Thank you so much for your words of wisdom!

If you gave notice during the review period, they could have given you inconsistently meets since you were already on your way out the door. This would have protected the remaining employees during the calibration exercise. They have to have a certain % of inconsistently meets and this would have protected the remaining team. If they’re wanting you back, I bet that happened. It’s not a reflection of you, they were gaming the calibration model. And, if they protected the remaining team, they sound like decent managers.

Why not start looking for a new job somewhere else? I actually don’t use the vision. It appears to be a benefit more than it is. You probably come out the same paying for your own office visits and finding discount glasses/contacts.

Find out where the live....pay back. It's the only recourse.

The dental and vision here are not good enough to base a life and career decision on. Not when there’s no job security.

If dental and vision are deciding factors, then you are probably an hourly employee. Otherwise, a few hundred dollars a year shouldn't impact you.

With that said, good chance they gave you an inconsistently meets because they need a quota and since you're gone, it was an easy choice.

Stay at your current job & DO NOT come back here. You could get laid off in this current climate, plus the inconsistent meets, plus the negative PR factor on your resume of association with this place. Read these boards- the place is in turmoil & getting worse every day. Put your energy into your current job. You can get vision & dental somewhere on the open market.
Now, if there's a change in CEO down the road & you see the culture changing for the better, reconsider coming back. It won't happen for a while though.

I’ve been here 27 years and my advice is to stay away at all costs. This company used to be a great place to work but it’s NOTHING like it used to be. The way they treat employees is appalling. If your happiness is important to you, stay where you are or look elsewhere. Sadly, it’s no place to build a career now. Dental and vision premiums are cheap. And if you aren’t in a hub you won’t be able to comeback anyway.

If you come back , play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Don't whine and moan. Stay at least a few years so if you need to hit the job market again, you don't appear to be a job hopper. Covid excuses days are over. Good luck.

Stay w/your current job. Try to effect change re: dental and vision.

If unbearable, look for another job that is not at either company.

Dental and vision are hardly worth trading in the ability to move up and earn more. Stay with your current job.
