WTF is going on with people checking Team's status? Are they chasing the green "active" dot? I have teams on my laptop and phone and am always available. Why does the stupid green dot matter to anyone?

Mine would go inactive while I was reading customer documentation and actually doing my job. I don’t think teams is accurate, it’s like it’s monitoring mouse click activity.

Missed that part right there I see. Just because they were exited doesn't mean it wasn't difficult. New Hampshire is an At Will employment state unless you have a specific contract. But even At-Will employers/states can have a desire to cover themselves against unemployment claims or general litigation. California, for example, is an at will state but I happen to know management and HR level employees there and you really need to have all of your documentation lined up if they want to deny UC claims or cover themselves for wrongful termination lawsuits.
Since Skype is being turned off July 31st managers have been pushing people to use teams instead & checking who is. Plus haven’t you got the endless pop up message about Skype ending?
The same thing happens to me where it shows my status as inactive, even when actively working. I thought maybe it made a difference if I was in a Microsoft application, but it doesn't. It doesn't matter if I am typing an email, working on a Word document, or on a SharePoint site.
Email when you want to email.
IM when you want to IM.
Call when you want to call.
A status icon means nothing, it should not factor at all as a reason to converse.
AND TEAMs is not that great at keeping the active green dot going anyway. I've complained to my manager about this and she had never experienced it - so I brought it up in a team meeting and almost the entire team had noticed it. I ended the discussion with - I've had managers that actually used the IM app to track folks and if that's gonna happen on this team I wanted the downfall of the greed dot of TEAMs noted first. EVERYONE agreed and kind of headed her (mngr) off at the pass on it. But she's not really that type of manager - but with this company who really knows what they're tracking?! I say if you have to track someone that isn't required to put in a project allocation timesheet or a timecard then you (mngr) need more to do in your day-to-day existence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
teams is super slow on updating status. I like to use the duration feature and just set it to busy for the whole month. I'm also never green. unless you have something important to say leave me alone.
Despise that Teams is so different from Skype. The dot aligns to calender and self-registered appts don't appear as mtgs or calls...shows Busy...so if I'm part of a discussion, it shows I'm Away bc I'm not moving my mouse. Ridiculous! And Chat svcks! Skype IM much better.
MS Teams is the Big Brother of apps, meant to track employees every move and conversation. Nothing more.
If your manager has to babysit you, I'd say it is an issue with you not getting your work done.
Checking attendance is what managers do when they don't know how to assign and measure work output.
In my experience, my Teams status sometimes stays on yellow/away even when I'm actively doing something in another application. I don't get it.
I had a manager say she was going to put her messenger service on always green, that way they think she is always working. I told her not to do that because if your manager messages you and you don't answer but you are green they will think you are ignoring them.

Dot shouldn't matter. Showing available or away, whatever. Doesn't mean your not doing your job. It shows that your prioritizing your work and don't respond to everyone interrupting your train of thought. It takes about 5 minutes to get back to where you were at in your head on average. I don't answer right away if I am in the middle of something and most people understand that.

I haven't experienced this which is why I ask. Depending on your team however, this may be a necessary evil to rule out any targeting. My group, you can name who won't respond to a group email/IM 9 times out of 10. Despite direct counseling and potential remuneration impact it continues. So I could see where "someone" has to hit everyone to build evidence and show no bias.
Not only is it difficult to terminate an employee depending on state but it's not a desirable process most times. No team wants to be short-handed.

Had a manager that would periodically, throughout the day would IM "hello" just to see how long it would take to get a response. If I wasn't doing my job, I wouldn't make my production numbers! Managers that monitor the green dot, don't have enough to do!
no kidding. who cares about the colour of the dot? what is important is when someone pings you that you respond in a timely manner.
