Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Midyear reviews are really midyear competition

Just had my mid-year. I got penalized for not volunteering to do my job along with the job of an open position on another team. Someone else on my team volunteered to do both jobs so I got ranked below that person. I will not sign up for doing two jobs and having to work nights just to keep up with both....which my fellow team member admitted to.

I wish I was closer to retirement. I am not cut out for this type of competition amongst my peers.

Reviews are for work you were required to do, not for volunteer work. WF needs to be transparent and say in advance that you'll be dinged if you don't take up volunteer opportunities. It doesn't make sense--if there are four people in a team and one volunteer opportunity, who gets credit? Only the person who got the extra work and evrybody else gets penalized? All who requested it even if they didn't get to do it?

Working off the clock? You do realize a lot of us are exempt, right?

If your coworker was working off the clock and your manager knew about it, they could both be in trouble.

I covered for a maternity leave for my manager for 9 + months, did it successfully even though she set me up to fail. The person who was the interim manager didn't know the subject matter & was bossy & a micromanager- no appreciation or warmth. All this garnered was a "meets" at YE (with a bonus which I am thankful for), and a snarky comment inserted by her on the review that had nothing to do with performance and was vague but circumspect. And they wonder why I left the team.

So you're a meets then, makes sense. You have to honestly compare yourself to your peers and sounds like you did but expected a better outcome than what's warranted. You're the problem. If everyone does what your peer is doing then you'd be rated a needs improvement or inconsistently meets correctly.

OP is 100% correct.

It's corporate Hunger Games.

So what you’re saying is that person’s output EXCEEDED yours? And your manager gave you the same opportunity, which you declined?

As long as you got a meets and they got rated higher than you, I’m not seeing anything at all wrong here.

Not stating your review rating and what your supposed penalization was is a sly way of trying to garner sympathy. And you got it, those with analytical responses got voted down. Those who simply rah-rah'd that Wells is terrible and you have suffered the greatest slight to man are upvoted.

And some people wonder why they don't get good enough raises or bonuses. You want more money? Then you have to do more work.

I’m very confused. Someone on your team did more work than you and you were both rated to reflect this?

Sounds like your peer is meeting the definition of “exceeds” and you fit the definition of “meets” and ratings are appropriate in relation to performance. Exceeds - performance outcomes consistently met and often exceeded expectations. What am I missing here?

My team is so under staffed now that we all have learned to not volunteer. Too bad if this has a negative affect on business. I'm not ruining my life and family so Charlie can sit in his easy chair.

OP--- I'm sorry to hear this!
Is it the new normal to take on the work of 2 others now?
I find it offensive for mgmt to say we're they will not overload our queues and then do it anyway...

Marking an employee down for refusing to be exploited is straight from the WF management handbook. Penalizing you for not taking on more could really be taken as retaliation for not participating in passive wage theft.

So you got graded appropriately then?

This is cheap to say and probably won't make you feel any better, but my department doesn't even have competition to offer as an incentive to show up to work each day.

We are merely filling seats waiting for jobs to be eliminated and moved offshore.

Performance reviews are totally meaningless. If there is no future to look forward to, who really cares what rating you get.

Working at Wells Fargo is a 'long game' if you decide to stay. Things will continue to fall apart, jobs will move to India and and managers will be forced out. I don't expect any promotions and can survive at my current level of pay. I will not break not rules and will be quietly quit. Fuuuuck Charlie.
