Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Legg town hall

Essentially all the questions being asked in Legg’s town hall are about RTO. We’ll see if they get answered when he gets to the Q&A section.

"Why do folks keep expecting Top executives with massive contracts and golden parachutes, to give a rats a-s about the staff"

We don't expect them to actually care. We expect them to be good enough at faking that they care so as to be convincing. You know, like any of us would at the funeral of someone we didn't particularly care about.

It's called common decency.

Instead we get lame jokes, lies about the fact that what was said at previous THs was all lies, and borderline hostility to the idea that anyone facing an impossible choice for no reason has anything to be upset about.

Any of the notorious propagandists of the 20th century would be proud of the performance today.

Why do folks keep expecting Top executives with massive contracts and golden parachutes, to give a rats a-s about the staff, they don't they do whatever dog and pony is necessary to play their role and then go back to making plans on which beach home to buy or which golf tournament to attend. Leadership at the executive level is a different strata than the workers.

Go drink some more RED wine with your Puppies Jeremy Legg. Douche bag showed zero empathy or compassion today to the employees of AT&T. Times like these is when a true leader would do just that.

One has to be a soulless, egomaniacal Machiavellian to ascend to the officer level (at any Fortune 100 corp). Ol’ (Jack)leg is NO exception to that rule.

They screwed me with less than 6 months to go. I was just laid off. I would have moved to a hotel. I was Ameritech level 2

I'm glad others noticed all the lies he said back at the town hall in February. And he expects people to trust him?

A total sh&&show! His answers were beyond weak (some were boldface lies), planted questions/people with non-RTO questions to defer from answering most of the RTO questions, cornball jokes. He stated supervisors have a tougher time when working remotely and heads-down tech types are better choices for virtual work. In my group some TDs were assigned Virtual and most developers were assigned Office. They assigned office to people they want to get rid of, mostly due to salary/pension obligations. They are disingenuous POS!!!

All non-Bell South pensions triple at MR75.

Ah, so that's how people in the 401k thread last week were showing such eye-popping pension balances that were 3 times what BellSouth people have.

I never liked the guy. His cutesy stunt of giving town halls from a closet days, to all of that annoying band stuff, to having to make videos to get team awards, and now this. He flat out lied about what he said in Feb vs. now, and he's trying to make it sound like the employees' fault. Many of the younger professionals are leaving because they see how the employees are treated. I truly feel for those who are kind of stuck here due to pension and other issues. Hope it all works out for folks.

"All non-Bell South pensions triple at MR75."

Management Cash Balance Program pension does not triple at MR75. MR75 appears to have no impact on the pension amount, according to Fidelity calculator and the SPD.

It seems that people are down voting posts that reflect that not all pension plans double or triple at MR75; the facts are the facts. Maybe down voting because they don't like the facts? I don't know, but statements about doubling/tripling are simply not true for all pension plans, or even all non Bell South pension plans.

The guy is a sociopath. I thought he was just a lap dog or a dunce out of his depth, but I see now it's worse than that.

He's got Kamala's stupid Joker laugh. I'm just a plain old supervisor but I know when to make a joke and when NOT to.

He shifts gears to try and claim he's saving society by making people move thousands of miles (sorry Granny in the old folks home) or irretrievably compromise their retirement by quitting in their late 50s when there is no recovery. So not only do you have to massively disrupt your life, shame on you for even questioning it. We're saving civil society here.

And then he adds the topper of them all: "other companies do this". So all these years we were thinking we were using our technology advantage by having key people not in their cars for 3 hours+ per day, working extra hours and not at all upset or inconvenienced by it, working through weather calamities and pandemics without missing a beat, etc. Turns out, we're going to discard all that and just do what everyone else does, which is return to 1975. Yes, that's how you beat the competition, by imitating them, badly.

Just wow.

Legg doesn't get that it's not the show up to the office for people who used to show up to the office, but the relocation or excessive commutes for people who never have been to an office. To be with, in many cases, people they don't even work with. I know people who are airplane flights away from one of their hubs and there is no need for them to even go to a hub even one time a month.

Last February he claimed jobs would be moved to hubs when those people retired. How that ended up not being true. So do catch your breath but don't hold it, because you can't trust anything they say.

"I don’t know what regions have this doubling and tripling at MR75"

Midwest region does. Legacy SBC (originally Ameritech). Fidelity calculators shows my lump sum payout nearly triples the day I hit MR75. Our understanding is that our base salaries have been somewhat lower all these years in exchange for a deferred compensation plan (that is what the legacy pension plan is - deferred comp).

St Louis does NOT have armed guards like he claimed. Shows how disconnected he is.

MR75 means nothing to SE anymore. We have a cash value payout. What ever you have at anytime you get when you retire. There is no doubling or tripling when you reach MR75 as long as you have been Management your entire career.

I don’t know what regions have this doubling and tripling at MR75

The main thing I learned is that there are now armed guards in Atlanta and Dallas offices. So tell me again why I would want to relocate there?

What he probably doesn't get, and I'm sure doesn't care about, is that some of us have dedicated 20+ years to this once great company and accepted somewhat lower annual compensation for the promise of a pension payout at 25 years or whatever one's individual situation is. For some of us (I get the plans are all different) - that payout nearly triples when we hit our modified rule of 75. To frame a forced move as a "choice" to retain our job that some are 1-3 years away from full pension payout when this has been part of our overall retirement plan and strategy for years is just heartless and completely lacking in empathy and loyalty.

Legg has always been a d*ck. When they took away benefits, he said "I don't get them." And then went on and on about how people hang onto things too long here. Today it was the "I moved but nobody is forcing you to." Doesn't get that someone who doesn't make the million he makes can't just up and move and know they have such money in the bank.

And sorry to anyone in Plano but those were the worst questions asked. I guess they don't think about the rest of the company having to face relocation choices.

The emotial tear jerking "look what you've done for the country and the digital divide" at the end almost made me pu-e.

"He claims he moved in prior jobs, yes and I’m quite sure Legg got relocation assistance that is not available to the workers so he has zero clue what the real “worker” is facing."

Yep. what an incredibly tone-deaf answer. It's not such a big deal to relocate when you're making (millions??) per year at his level AND your relocation is paid for by the company. Talk about a guy who needs to learn to read the room.

What a d*ck this guy has become.

Legg what a clown, Would any of you board a ship that you knew was likely to sink? If not why are you not leaving? If so welcome aboard the “Titanic” enjoy your trip. You are all smart enough to not work at T. If you are not impacted by the current RTO and relocation efforts, it is a matter of time. Recognize T will treat you just as they are your coworkers today, just don’t give them the opportunity. Ask yourself what success is even available for T in the years you have left in your career. There are 124B reason that will lead you to the truth.

his first answer was not only abrasive (great leadership skills!) but also flat-out wrong as far as the history of telecommuting in this company. He's been here 3 years - he should ask some folks that have been around longer the facts and the history.

When he first joined, I liked his approach, now - he's lost all my respect - seems he's become a stankey clone.

Kudos to the person who asked him face to face about empathy. Great question and his answer mostly failed.

In short, our highest execs are clueless and what's worse, they truly do not care about most of us as employees.
