Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Let me explain how this work

Most companies are metric-based companies where they use metrics to approximate how effective an employee is compared to other employees. They also consider other criteria when employees get the job done. Fiserv is not one of those companies.

Fiserv is a metrics-exclusive company. They measure employees exclusively on the numbers in reports. Whether you are effective at your job or not is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the number on the report. Any effort you exert that does not improve your numbers is wasted effort. Your dissatisfaction is the result of trying to help the customers instead of helping your numbers look better. Your coworkers who are getting rewarded for not helping have excellent numbers on their reports.

People who help the company will leave. People who make their numbers look good will get promoted. This toxic company culture will rot Fiserv to its core. Lean-in to the toxic culture to get positive feedback. Or leave for a real company if you want to help customers. Staying to help customers here will not be rewarded.

As middle managers get replaced it will only get worse.

GS requires 8 hrs but I have not heard of such requirement in the U.S. - it would be hard to say "we are bringing you back into the office to have collaboration & innovation. Oh and btw make sure you don't leave your computer for 8 hrs!"

Having said that, now that I think of it, they probably will. Makes a good trap for firing with cause.

  • Come into the office 4 full days or else we'll fire you
  • Oh, feeling under the weather & want to WFH, take R&R or you'll be fired
  • You are abusing unlimited R&R - you're fired
  • You come in as you are supposed to but your activity is too low - you're fired

I think 6.5 in Sapience keeps you off a list. At least they are giving us a bit of po-p time.

Corollary to "work smart, not work hard"--work elsewhere...

So sapience and badge swipes must be at least 8 hours or more and you must work during core hours to be ok?

One of the numbers, or may be the only number, comes from Sapience. You have to log 8 hrs work. lol, this is ridiculous.

What reports are you talking about? Badge swipe report? I don't know those WFH have that report.

Fiserv doesn't care about metrics,

  • Metrics are for other companies.

Thank you for this.i know you are correct. I have never had to work this way..... ALWAYS customer service. Between the total inflexibility and the toxicity you explain..... this ain't for me. I guess I will be on a list for something until I find something different. 3 weeks ago I was content and extremely productive. The numbers will show I checked out.
