Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Gotta love Orca the micromanaging time reporting software

What a joke, as someone said it’s a Rube Goldberg contraption. It doesn’t even have a logical flow, has too many pages and one has to keep jumping back and forth just to put in a simple schedule and time report. Should be able to have a normal schedule saved 7am-4pm with a 1 hr lunch and only change if applicable. It’s not productive to put it in everyday.

It appears they want the techs/managers to be less productive, have more responsibilities and spend unnecessary time on an exercise in futility. Staff on the other hand are very happy, statistics galore and a terrible bug laden program = job security!

Yep, today is the first day we had to use it for time reporting and no one was able to figure it out, our manager couldn't even help us, AT&T has gone completely nuts, for a company that preaches efficiency it took about 10 steps backwards in that department. Whoever thought this was a good idea should be fired.

Just so cr-p information isn't shared here.....LEAN and Six Sigma are not new methodologies. LEAN has been around in one form or another since the 1950's and Six Sigma has been around since the mid 1980's. They are utilized in nearly every facet of AT&T's operations structure. It's just that some business units have taken the methodologies and application to the utmost extreme where they think they fit while others favor a more tempered approach to support different roles and operational responsibilities. The methodologies are very flexible, but when applied and implemented with little care, they don't scale efficiently and can introduce chaos and attitude of disdain in your workforce.

Yes Lean and Six Sigma have been around for some time. AT&T doesn't need any Six Sigma Black Belts. It doesn't work with the variables in our workflow. Your skills are over rated and overly expensive. Basically, you cause more problems than you solve. The best one can hope for is the unintended consequences of Lean and Six Sigma cost less than the problems this methodology is trying to prevent. A "solution" looking for a problem at best. But "leadership" eats this stuff up, they can't get enough of it....

Agreed, happy to have a position at T that allows me a very nice paycheck and a lot of personal time to do my own thing 8 hours per day and not feel guilty about it when I think of how the upper management suits have destroyed this once great company and get rewarded for their poor decision making! I sleep very well at night thank you very much!

Everytime time company adopts the latest management tool dejour, be it Lean, Six Sigma or MSOC, it is discovered that it is not relevant to the work that we do. Making widgets on a factory floor, sure employ Lean, MSOC, Six Sigma Ad infinitum. Doesn't work here no matter what the bobbleheads try.
That said, I will not discourage "leadership" from their endeavours. Due to their short sighted efforts I can produce 8 hours on my time sheet and not do a phucking thing all day. Life is good. I get rewarded for doing nothing and Stankey gets rewarded for costing the company BILLIONS. I do not feel bad.
Well I am a little envious of Stankey. I wish I could rob a fraction of value from AT&T that Stankey has for my own personal gain, but I'm just a worker bee.
