Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Manager communication about the change

Does anyone receive communication from your direct manager about this change? For example, your location is not on the list so you need to make a decision before July or September.

Yes, direct manager contacted me and said senior leadership need to know which city I would move to. Right now. Within the hour. My spouse, also a remote worker with a different company, thought I was playing a bad joke when I barged in with the question.

𝙋𝙞𝙘𝙠 𝙖 𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮: 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡: it does not matter which hub, but only that I'm in one of their approved offices, and that I get myself moved there asap.

That convinced me this entirely a cost-reduction move with nothing to do with productivity or "collaboration" or any of that malarkey. 𝘾𝙤𝙨𝙩. 𝙈𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙝 𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 1𝙌 𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩. That's it.

Guys, have a little self-respect. At least be honest about. Do not insult our intelligence about "the right thing to do" as Legg whines in his half-hearted memo that actually starts with a list of reasons to NOT do this. You know it's about cutting people while preserving your own richly-rewarded positions. You better hope the labor savings exceed the losses from cutting operational capability, because if not you'll be following us out the door.

Some in my org have been told they need to report In June (they are within 50 miles of a hub). Some not near a hub have been told to not worry about it. I think there is more info to come. This 9 hub dealie was all dropped on them suddenly.

My direct supervisor and this bosses didn't even know until yesterday. They just told us we are fired if we do t report into the office. Even the workers that were hired as full time remote in 2020 are told to move to an office with no relocation credits or they get fired. No layoff no severance just out. We didn't do anything wrong except to chose at&t and believe their lies.

Dude, either you or your bosses are big bullies. This is fake news. No further details were provided yet. No directives were passed down the line yet. They are monitoring the responses and sensing how employees respond to this memo. This thing is too big to hide it from the public. It affects thousands of employees and even your bosses. They are pi---d like others. They were blindsided and and betrayed. They are on the same boat as rest of us. We will all see how this will be played by coward Stinky and his closed minions.

Talked to my manager and I am good. Just need to report to office in the city I live at least 3-4 days per week. This office is not one of the CORE locations. I am in operations and support the local market which I assume while I am not required to move to one of the other 9 locations.

I think they were lucky to go to Accenture

In 2014 our five Exec Directors arranged to outsource 215 employees to Accenture along with a long list of IT applications. Unknown to the Exec Directors was that they were to be blindsided and also were sent to Accenture. That is how T does it; not revealing anthing 'til it occurs.

Yes. I have already been told. Not in a hub but I am OK since I’m customer facing. Onto the next round

WTF Stinky was smoking? This is another stupid decision made by the top. A step that will cost company big bucks. T is doing what no other big corporation would ever attempt. Wonder who did they pay for a consultation in crafting this plot.

Read the FAQ as it states within 30 days expect a conversation with your management. If you are already an FOW in Atlanta or Dallas report to site by July 10th. If you are a TW then a conversation with your management is coming. Do not expect anything sooner as our AVP does not have any information yet to share. It sounds like anyone outside of John's inner circle has been blindsided and now are likely fending for themselves first. I remember when they gave us the past warnings here in San Ramon and yet most of us are still here. Back in early 2003 they started to inquiry about everyone moving from San Ramon to Plano, only 3 I know of took the offer so nothing happened. Fast forward to 2023 and it is ground hogs day again. It is Friday and there is nothing you can do about it. Log out talk a walk and have a drink or smoke some Herb if it is legal in your state and hope for the best. I know this sucks, I have two little ones, one who is in and out of the hospital every other month so losing health care is what keeps me up at night but i realize someone that high up the food chain could careless and does not know i exist. If he did he would not be sitting where he is today whether we agree with him actions or not. Time Warner was a back breaker and Company is now needing to cut cost in a big way to get any additional funding or financial support is what it is looking like.
