Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Comical….

My manager sits remote while most of her team comes into the office. I get pinged on why I am not hitting 8 hours in the office (ridiculous traffic) yet this lady is home in her sweats logging in. Mind you that if she had to commute it would take her 90 minutes one way.

Why am I coming in if my direct manager is remote? I don’t get this logic at all

Many managers have already been given the directive to either go into an office, move to a non-manager position or leave. She may just be riding out her time.

Does manager have a medical reason for a WFH accommodation? And yes this demand to be in the office counterintuitive, drives down moral and increases our carbon footprint significantly.

Don’t blame your manager, blame upper management that requires you to be in the office. The question isn’t “why do I have to come in but X person doesn’t” the question is “why do I have to come in when I can successfully do my job from the comfort of my own home”

So I'm going to play devil's advocate here. Does the manager have an office to go to, or is the manager just out in the wild. If that is the case the next line of cuts she'll be up first out of sight out of mind

The logic is that when you are talking to someone near you, you might have an idea that makes Frank money.

That faulty logic is the closest this company will come to "innovation."

The moral is that you need to spend more time talking to people around you and less time doing work.

It's because we are on The Road to Serfdom (recommended reading!).

Demoted ?! That means 80 percent of all managers across the board would be demoted

So I need to get promoted and a few direct reports so I can go remote. Sounds like a Fiserv plan.

Yes, and this envy will destroy teams. Why is she/he remote when I have to commute to the office. If I must comply with this rules then everyone else must do it too! Frank then victoriously announce: Can you see it? Your colleagues and customers wants everyone in the office 5 days.

I'm surprised she hasn't been demoted. Having direct reports while you are remote seems to be taboo for this regime.
