This is in regards to questions about severance for RTO. It is actually quite clear.
There are two important sections: the first describes eligibility, and the second describes situations under which you'd NOT be eligible.
- ELIGIBLE for severance: nothing too exciting here, nor relevant to RTO. The most relevant paragraph says an employee is eligible if "selected for involuntary termination by the Participating Company, including as a direct result of force surplus, technological, OPERATIONAL, ORGANIZATIONAL AND/OR STRUCTURAL CHANGES affecting AT&T...." (emphasis mine)
- NOT eligible for severance: a lot to unpack, but basically the usual things - misconduct, performance problems (unless a force reduction was based partially on performance), eligible for benefits with another AT&T company, etc. But here is the important part. An employee is NOT eligible for severance: "if the employee voluntarily retires or resigns, or, having received a Severance Notification Letter, declines a job offer for a postiion at the same level or higher THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE RELOCATION" (emphasis mine)
So unless they try to make a case that refusing to move to another city is literally misconduct (which is a very thin case), then the key thing to remember here is to NOT voluntarily resign under ANY circumstance.
tl;dr The current severance plan does not automatically disallow severance for employees whose jobs require relocation.
