Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Great article about powerful men being behind the push to RTO

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/flexible-feminist-women-won-t-111956821.html

Excellent line, after mentioning some of the changes in society since the 1940s, “We are being told the only way to work is to return to a schedule invented with the Model T.”

And “Flexible work provides greater opportunities for career advancement across gender lines and increases the number of women in leadership, which is good for business. Companies with more women in leadership have more engaged workers and are more profitable.”

"Toxic corporate real estate investments aren’t helping either. The lack of vision and inability to pivot and evolve (move forward) is on full display with the old guard."

This.

The C-suites' -- and, quite frankly, CRE industry leaders' -- lack of foresight and complacency over the last three years means We The Employees are having to take it on the chin with RTO. In 2020/2021, anyone with two functioning brain cells knew that you would never put the WFH-genie back in the bottle. Many of us had been WFH just fine with no issues, excellent work, and productivity for years; then, add to that all the new folks experiencing that for the first time during the (sc)amdemic --- and we were NEVER gonna go back to the way things were.

If all the C-suites and CRE industry workers had been smart, they would've gotten together in 2020/2021 and started brainstorming. Sure, it was a weird time, but nobody could doubt that corporate properties would ever be the same once the world went back to some semblance of normal. Why didn't they, at that time, start thinking about what jobs could and couldn't come back to offices? Not everyone wants to WFH and that's fine. But the powers-that-be had plenty of time to think strategically: see if loans could be restructured...analyze lease agreements and decide which ones to renew/not renew...analyze corporate properties and decide which ones to keep/sell/change...work with municipalities on possible rezoning and convert office buildings to housing...etc., etc. The world needed these people to recognize what was happening, understand what it meant, get creative, pivot and evolve.

They didn't do that. And now here we are.

OC +1 are going four days a week currently. Next will be managers and finally the rank and file. Sound familiar?

It's senior management pushing RTO regardless of gender because that's the marching orders from the top. The amount of time, resources and money spent on tracking is ridiculous. It's distracting as it's the thing I hear people talking about the most when in the office as there is no transparency from upper management. Chase apparently has a dashboard that employees can see themselves to track attendance. WF would never have that due to our great technology and management wouldn't allow it.

I hear 4 days a week is coming. Feels like a game of chicken between employees and "the firm." They don't want to pay severance so if people don't oblige they can be let go for cause. I hope this rumor is wrong.

This article is pushing a delusional narrative. Women in leadership are as much behind the RTO as are the men in leadership. Indeed, at WF the Head of HR is a woman/identifies as a woman, and is pushing for all of HR to be back in the office, has limited hiring to hub locations. RTO is not limited to specific generations, either. I see managers of all ages, race, gender pushing RTO. Managers have bought into the mantra that "we are better together."

I figure since Charlie can work in NY vs San Fran (official US headquarters) so he can be close to his family (his words from town hall last week), then we can all work where is best for us. So glad he's leading by example (insert sarcasm emoji). I hate it here.

Their miscalculation is that they will get both negative outcomes, not one or the other.

FRTO. The dinosaur men that are pushing it have small man syndrome. The key word here is powerful which is not WF senior management

We all know the reason for RTO, and it’s nicely laid out in a response here. The incessant gaslighting of employees is what pi---s me off. Call a spade a spade and just stop feeding me utter BS knowing full well I was working from home the past twenty years and don’t work with a single person in my building. Literally CSuite… just f-cking stop.

Wells Fargo needs to stop their lies promoting family life and family balance. LIES. They care nothing about that balance. They would rather we all go back to the office and leave our children behind.

I'm hearing on the news that alot of companies are forcing a 3x in office week.... not just WF. I say F-RTO, but WF will fire me if I don't comply.

For financial industry corporations such as Wells Fargo, the push is related to a vested interest in Corporate Real estate. Which is to say the perceived industry risk from the collapse of CRE is far, far greater than any disgruntlement caused by RTO.

Toxic corporate real estate investments aren’t helping either. The lack of vision and inability to pivot and evolve (move forward) is on full display with the old guard. They made their money already, they just don’t want to admit that there’s a better way forward for all of us to make more.

I think the “old-guard” male leaders in my LOB prefer to be in the office, and their “stay at home” wives don’t want them to be at home either!

Our manly managers enjoy all the perks of the office: glad-handing their higher- ups in person, asking their Executive Admins to screen their calls, hiding in their private corner offices, dressing better than the peons, parking their expensive clean sports car in between the aging Corollas and Minivans, “exclusive” meetings and corporate dinners and sales trips, sitting at the head of the conference room table, making sure their heathen employees are “in on time”, having the last word, bragging about their Country Clubs and expensive vacations in front of employees nervous about saving for their kid’s school, taking credit for their team’s accomplishments, ruling the roost with a tight fist….

Of course The Boyz want everything back to the way it was before!
