He claims Alberta will thrive by doubling oil production through a united Canada, yet he’s perfectly fine with laying off employees and offshoring jobs, driving unemployment even higher in the province. How exactly does that support Albertans?

Well, you have to understand that John Wheelan is an ExxonMobil henchman appointed to help them maximize their profits, making political relationships and scratching each other's backs to help them meet their corporate profit objective which is of great importance and one of the reasons people like john wheelen are in their position. What you call hypocrisy, is merely how political relationships I built to save the profitability objective. At the moment, exxonmobil faces a major challenge in united states because they are making significant refining and upstream profits. However, trump is expected to impose an export ban, which will hamper their ability to profit from the situation. So it is not extraordinary that John is taking a position which world reduce Washington's influence in ExxonMobil profitability focused policies. What you're hearing, it's merely a side effect off that policy.
Imperial Oil CEO urges Alberta to reject separatist push

Imperial Oil (IMO) CEO John Whelan said the company supports a united Canada, as the Alberta province prepares to vote on whether to begin the constitutional process toward a binding independence referendum, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
"Canada and Alberta work best when people, products, energy, and investment can move freely and reliably across the country," Whelan said, making Imperial Oil (IMO) the first major energy company in the province to stake a firm position on the movement to break away from Canada.
A recent study commissioned by the Alberta government was released showing that any secession process could reduce gross domestic product by at least 2.2% in the first five years in a good scenario, or more than 10% in a poor one.
Whelan also said he shares Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's goal of doubling oil production in the province and lauded moves the Alberta and Canadian governments have made to encourage production growth.
"With a supportive fiscal and regulatory framework, Imperial has the potential to double our gross operated upstream production while also advancing additional downstream biofuel production," the CEO said.
