New Advancement Guides

Any other supervisors notice huge changes in the advancement guides this year? The one I saw added around five years for E/O to get from CL26 to CL27

CL27 manager here. This year I could only see my team up to CL24. My manager (CL29) could see my CL25-26 team members. Her boss (exec) could see CL27-29. I didn’t notice any changes in the advancement guides for 23-24. The required YEE for promotion is still based on the lower of the last two year’s assessment. Where employees were supervisors or managers, it said planner discretion but gave an indicative YEE for promotion to the next CL. The promotion planning tool showed potential but that doesn’t really factor into it for someone on an advancement guide….you blindly follow what the computer says. It’s more nuanced for those not on advancement guides and you have to think about number of years to retirement, potential, how awful the next CL’s ranking group will be and whether you’re setting someone up for failure by promoting them now. And what I input is just a recommendation…. It goes up line for approval. I’ve been told not to expect CL28 anytime soon even with outstanding performance…. Even when recommended, it gets knocked back. The system is so flawed. I can’t believe I need to think about whether the predatory PA system will demoralize a fantastic employee to the point of quitting (or worse) because I promote them to a CL that their performance and experience justifies.

@dk yes. A CL promotion can be as many as ten years slower if you are ranked low vs high.

Certain GBCs dont have advancement guide past 25. With consistent excellent/O performance up t o manager. That can mean 2 assessment of those on 26.

Does performance matter for the advancement guide?

Were the guides updated for a given potential or people had their potential reduced but the advantage guide for the given potential remained the same?

@bh 27 has been a pretty common end of career stop for upstream the last 5 or so years. Ultimate potential of 29 is the default but dropped as people approach 50.

CL27 was where over 80% of folks ended thier careers in the heritage Chemicals organization. Seems they are just going back to that now. Probably su-ks for those in other organizations where achieving 28-29 was the norm for a career.

I couldn’t see beyond CL27. All of those promotions were kicked up to my manager and said they were up to planner discretion. But it did show a typical YEE for it so the advancement guide must still exist.
