Thread regarding Hertz layoffs

Hertz High School

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about working at Hertz, it’s that it can feel like one big popularity contest.

You can work hard, consistently get results, and prove that you’re good at your job, but none of that seems to matter as much as being liked by the right people. There are people who basically work from home even though that’s not technically their job, barely seem to do much of anything, and somehow nobody cares because they’re well liked.

I guess birds of a feather really do flock together. When you have leaders who spend more time barking orders than actually doing the work themselves, of course they’re going to appreciate people who operate the same way. Why would poor work ethic bother you when you’re looking at a reflection of yourself?

And then you have the “business trips.” Put the right group of people together, add some drinks after the meetings, and suddenly everyone is gossiping about people who aren’t even there. The craziest part is watching someone in leadership change their entire opinion of another employee based on what one of their buddies has to say about them. Never mind that person’s actual results or what they contribute. Apparently, a few drinks and the right person whispering in your ear can carry more weight than the work someone actually does.

Meanwhile, the people who show up, do the work, produce results, and hold themselves accountable are expected to just keep doing it.

So if you’re looking for longevity or advancement at Hertz, here’s the lesson: being good at your job only gets you so far. Better make sure your butt-kissing skills are on point too, because being popular with the right people seems to matter a whole lot more than actually being effective.

@gy you know why we come here? Because we invested our years, sweat and tears into Hertz in hopes that we would enable the company to flourish and be our pride and joy. All to be destroyed by gremlins and dragons at the top stealing and making one bad decision after another. How many times were we told “sorry, another bad year…enjoy the bad bonus and merit” while watching one clown after another go through the revolving door stealing millions from our company, flying all over the world in the corporate jet, and somehow visiting the local franchise in Qatar was a priority during the middle of the world cup. We were the ones that had to make the hard decisions to abandon this disaster, give up our seniority, stock options, friends and start all over somewhere else. Hopefully this forum is read by major shareholders to enact change and get rid of the cancer impairing Hertz from ever reaching its potential.

@gt It’s strange to be this invested in people at a workplace you’ve already moved on from. If leaving was the right decision, then move forward and focus on wherever you are now. Repeatedly coming online to make disparaging comments about former coworkers says far more about the person posting them than the people being discussed. And for what it’s worth, the anonymity isn’t nearly as convincing as you seem to think it is.

@eq That’s because the entire leadership is corrupt. You have JDR and his gremlin secretary alongside all the other smurfs. Then you have the blind leading the blind. Just get ‘em another Diet Coke.
But you got it all wrong. No one truly likes them. People are only nice to them because of their positions. That’s the same for JDR, the gremlin, add nothing, the gross non veggie eating slob and the useless mo--n in “HR.” That’s why I left, tired of the toxicity.

Oh no! Some people aren't working super hard for sh---y Hertz, after how well we've been treated? The horror 😱

Only a bootlicker would be so concerned about "show[ing] up, do[ing] the work, produc[ing] results, and hold[ing] themselves accountable". By gawd, you have to be totally insufferable.

You are so right, and I’ve experienced this myself as have other around me. Sad. No wonder we struggle, the company is run by people who think like adolescents.
