Thread regarding Optum layoffs

How do you stay sane?

I'm doing three times the amount of work than I did when I first joined because we lost so many people, and I'm about ready to break. They keep adding things and don't give a damn whether I have the time to do it, not to mention energy. If I could, I'd leave today.

@ar solid answer. This is a passive pushback without being a "the one" who is the problem. Use the the "I wanna do good boss" routine. Here are the 59 things I have. Help me help you. If they're all a #1 there are no 1's

@ak you do realize in a real corporate role that doesn’t work right? You clearly have never worked in such.

The workload is crushing. I've never experienced anything like it and the stress is ki-ling me. It's so disgusting that they think it's acceptable to do this to people. I'm very close to leaving without anything else lined up because I can't take the stress anymore.

@OP
Yep. In C&S Texas. They gave us all 1% raises across the board last year and we expect the same or less next year. Took away bonuses and decreased 401k match. Then stopped backfilling positions. They haven’t backfilled a position in over a year in my area. The work of everyone who left rolled onto the plates of those remaining. They are now adding or planning to add even more responsibilities. There is no ability to “do what needs to be done today and let the rest roll” because everything is on a short deadline, from follow ups to call backs to state assessments to UMR responses. Document more.
They want us to care about the financial well-being of the company and work to increase revenue while squeezing us dry. We get no reward for helping the company do better.
We are supposed to work harder, do more, for the reward of mere pennies per hour.
No one is motivated. Most everyone I know is looking for new jobs right now.
It was better a couple years ago.

Send your supervisor an email with a list of your current projects/responsibilities and ask him to prioritize each one. Make sure you have everything in writing. Do the best you can at completing the tasks with the highest priorities.

"Sure boss, I'm happy to take on this additional work! Which current work should be de-prioritized, to create capacity?"

@OP I’m in the same boat. Prioritize on what actually needs to get done that day and let the rest burn. If they’re not seeing a backlog of work that can’t get done they’re just gonna assume that you’re fine and keep giving you more. I’m not saying don’t do the other tasks. I’m just saying don’t let them consume you. this place doesn’t care about you. Do enough to keep your job don’t do anymore.
