Thread regarding CDW layoffs

I have a bad feeling. Is it just me?

Since the onset of all these recent changes, reduction in workforce, and major leadership shifts we have seen so many changes in the organization. With the way they are shifting away from the normal process for formulating our campaigns and it makes it look like they’ll likely start purging people from Marketing and Demand Generation based in this new model they are leveraging. I do not feel like I have job security. To speak candidly, I was more cautiously optimistic prior to this and now I am legitimately worried for me and fellow coworkers. Am I the only one that feels this way? I can just feel there’s going to be another round of layoffs before the end of the year. Thoughts?

It is not just a weird random feeling. It is happening. Everyone has this feeling and it is common sense with constant changes to the business. I gotta tell you all, the job market right now is a complete joke. It su-ks.

@q5
Leadership should read your post.

So many think and feel this way but if you speak up...you get ignored or ostracized.

Customers are #1 and that's now forgotten. Relationships to leadership are meaningless unless it puts more $ in their pockets but they fail to realize when AM's make more...CDW flourishes as AM's that make more are generally earning a larger piece of the customer's overall IT spend. No customer has all thier eggs in one basket and our portion of that IT basic is shrinking because of what you pointed out in your post

@JN makes a great point. One of the biggest changes at this company has been the loss of relationships and individual ownership.

There was a time when relationships mattered at every level—customer to AM, customer to ISA/FSA, AM to technical resources, and CDW to our partners. People knew who they were working with, and there was accountability that came with that.

Now, far too much of the experience feels transactional. A request becomes a case, gets routed into a queue, and eventually lands with whoever is available. Customers aren't necessarily working with people who know their environment, history, or business anymore.

I remember when customers could log in and see the actual team assigned to their account—networking, storage, security, and other resources. There was a sense that they had a dedicated team behind them. That model seems to have been replaced with, "submit a case and someone will pick it up."

It's difficult to understand how the value of dedicated relationships and account knowledge became so secondary. In trying to create efficiency and scale, it feels like we lost one of the things that made the company valuable to customers in the first place.

This is already making waves across the education division. With the strategists and ambassadors gone (the ones that mattered anyway) my people who “knew people” who could get me into meetings are also gone. And there are some people who won’t even bother meeting anymore in education because these strategists provided cost free services…now every meeting truly seems like a sales pitch to them. I’m going to begin looking for a new job today.

The Vendor Partners take CDW very seriously as an organization that has great customer relationships. How much each Seller drives business vs. Fulfills them is a great question and varies per seller. The challenge is going to be if CDW is losing it's edge and it's desire to take care of the customer first as it tries to pinch pennies and listen to consultants. If you try too hard to "do what everybody else does" to save money, you end up being "like everybody else". IF that is the case, why would customers prefer to do business with you?

The problem is the tech industry doesn’t take CDW serious, all the partners laugh at CDW cause they’re paper pushers that adds no value

@fa I agree and saw this from within PPM and on the partner side. CDW is not a demand generation machine. They are a fulfillment machine.

Was in sales for almost a decade. What demand generation is being done? I sourced all of my own leads and closed the deals on my own. There was maybe a 1 month period I remember some cr-ppy HPE leads were shared, but they were so cold and unvetted they were DOA.

Genuinely curious what purpose you all serve. Even our large open events we manually source attendees.

i hope they get rid of our sr manager in the next rift . He runs our department basically like Lotso of sunnyside daycare in toystory 3. An absolute lazy pychopath who projects phony false worldview and he finds his home in corporate america. He is a bully who only promotes lazy underperforming bullies like himself. Nerds and passionate doers are demotivated. He is by far the worst of the worst yet he has eluded prior rifs

There are lots of changes happening at CDW. If you don't feel safe, you likely are not safe. Sellers performing well will generally be safe. Backbone and support can be cut based on a senior leader's decision to go in a different direction. The reality is we no longer give warnings and give good Coworkers time to find a new role with CDW. We just make the cut. This is even outside of an organized layoff. We have many new senior leaders that have their own new visions and people they want in place (from the outside).
Even if you love it here and plan to stay, your best move to put out feelers and apply for roles just to gage your value and see what is out there. CDW has stopped showing loyalty to it people, there is nothing wrong with you applying elsewhere, "just in case".

The entire leadership layer of my department was axed out of the blue last Thursday. It was a real wakeup call on the urgency to leave CDW behind.

Trust your gut. I came to CDW 6 years ago downshifting from a major OEM, and counting the days to retirement...only a few months left! If you are customer facing and providing value you are in a much better position than being a staff employee. That is business 101. CDW is a not a stable or growing company, and you need to protect yourself. I think you understand this, and it is in your best interest to put some feelers out.

Additionally, I think there are a lot of undercurrents going on at CDW right now that HR and upper mgt is not factoring in. There is a significant number of customer facing resources who have had it with management, compensation, and the lack of strategic direction. Lots of successful CDW employees are leaving now and more will leaving CDW by their choice in the very near future. Hang in there for now, but start looking immediately. This company is in choppy waters, and the horizon is not looking good with current leadership.

I believe that there will likely be another round before end of year, but that's just gut feeling from what I'm seeing and I have no inside information.
