Thread regarding BD (Becton Dickinson & Co.) layoffs

Who's going to be responsible for the work of those laid off?

We lost two people who were integral to our team. Their work has to be done. The rest of us are already overworked, so if they expect us to be the ones to do it, they're in for a rude awakening. I don't think somebody really thought things through when making the latest layoff list.

The Statement that VP three levels away from the work are naming people to remove from the process and don’t have a clue about how and who do the work, is spot on. - layers of management point down to ID “the little people” who can be cast aside. - VP asked director , director asks associate director, who asks the Sr Manager to ask the manager to ask the team leader to identify associates to eliminate. That is the BD way.

@ba in our area, the problem is they get it right by laying off a specific person and then bring them back as a consultant-like you said but they still can’t do the job. So now they make big money for doing sh!try work or no work. (can’t make this cr-p up).

@OP Those who put names on “THE LIST” are often VPs who are 3 times removed from the work the person does and therefore have no idea of the impact losing that person will have on the team. Comically, what often happens is they will then rehire the person a few months later as a “consultant” and pay double for them. But since the $ for an FTE comes from a different bucket than a consultant, they don’t care. That’s how id--tic this company is.

@ah I agree. I am no longer as “helpful” as I once was. If asked directly I will reply but no longer do I bring up issues I see or make any comments on calls as it would only means more work for myself. It sad but many employees are feeling the same. Under appreciated and under paid and with this economy and gas prices why wouldn’t they allow us to work from home more often. Doesn’t cost any $ for BD and it would go along way with employee morale

Generally, those responsible for a decision also own the consequences. So, who decided that these employees were unnecessary?

They expect the ones still employed to do it and WITHOUT anymore money!!! Happened to me twice now and I’ve decided to do just what is needed and let everything else go. I used to come in early and stay late and I stopped that when they demanded everyone return to office 4 days a week. I arrive just in time and at end of day I walk out and let everything wait until the next day. Or or or. They are going to send the work to Genpack in india. What a disaster this company has become
