I used to worry about losing this job all the time, but I've gradually stopped letting that control me. I've kept my resume current, built up skills outside my normal responsibilities and made sure I have options. These days I'm not trying to climb the ladder here anymore, I gave up on that. But if a layoff happens, I'll deal with it and move forward.

@OP After being promised a promotion for the past ten years I too just gave up. I've help just about every role in m department and consistently rate 2-3 depending on which of the dozen or more bosses I have in any given year. I have created my F-you accounts and I'm ready for anything. They have me by the ba--s. I've been here long enough that my salary is quite good and I would be hard pressed to match it if I had to start from scratch and search for a new job, especially at 54 years old. If I had to, I could Coast-Fire into a part-time gig doing something I like a lot better and still pay the bills. So for now, I'm doing the bare minimum to keep from getting noticed and praying for a few more years of insurance coverage and pay to pad my F-you accounts.
@OP well said. I also quit my job this week at Citi as it was studying outside to build up a different career path and skills.
If you pay attention to everything going on in the world you'd probably do nothing. Just accept it and move on with the times.. good way to be
100% agree, especially when "management" isn't inclined to help with upward mobility or career progression/development. My resume is ready, and I'm looking externally as well.
Morale is very low as no one can stay focused on the job at hand waiting for the ax to fall.
