Thoughts? It's all over the news. A bit too coincidental for one news to be discussed concurrently on every single MSM outlet. Seriously, like someone flipped a switch, a whistleblower tells us what a dozen folks before him did, and it's the opening news across channels with almost identical wording.

The sudden wall-to-wall coverage is worth noticing, but similar headlines across outlets are not evidence by themselves of coordination - major outlets often chase the same news cycle, sources, studies, and attention incentives.
"AI" su-ks. Always have.
The companies that have their AI already developed and ready to go are now saying, generally, that they have created a product that is so dangerous that it could end humanity and now want Congress to slow down development and regulate it. When some of the smartest people in the county (the Silicon Valley crowd) ask for help from some of the d-mbest (all members of Congress), you know something is going on and it has nothing to do with protecting humans.
1) Anthropic is going public so they now need to be concerned about their stock value, 2) Because the giants already have their AI ready, regulations only hurt competitors in the various stages of development,
3) A monopoly is profitable for shareholders,
4) The Dems are looking for a platform to run against the Trumpers and saving humanity from scary AI sounds really nice,
5) Campaign money in tight races is needed,
6) Silicon Valley loves paying Congress to pass the regulations they write to keep their competitors down and are willing to donate,
7) the media got the memo
8) China loves US regulations that don't apply to them,
9) AI will not be any more controlled than it currently is
There is no more money to spend on AI infrust. They need to justify the slow down. Control deflation vs pop.
I see both sides of the "debate"
First, corporations (who are people) are greedy corksoakers. They don't really care for any collateral damage IF they can make a buck.
China (and others) are not bound by two completing political parties in a death spiral against each other...they aren't going to slow or impede any progress. What does this mean? Its MOOT what the democratic "world" does, because they (China et al) aint buying it.
I DO think there are dangers. We've already seen A.I. go rogue and attack outside their "mission". Is it full on Skynet? Whos to say? I mean, with the interwebs being globally connected, its not out of the realm of possibility?
Shutting down power plants, opening flood gates, fooking with air traffic control, contaminating water supplies, scrambling satellite signals...so many realistic possibilities.
And...thats ONLY considering if A.I. has a mind of its own. Bad actors can also USE A.I. to do horrendous damage themselves.
The one guy who said A.I, will replace large numbers of employees is dead on as many on this site can attest. I think thats the TIP of the iceberg, the layoffs have only just begun. I don't see A.I. creating more HUMAN jobs than it ki-ls. Hopefully someone has a more positive spin on that potential.
It's definitely a coordinated media blitz to create mass hysteria, paranoia, and fear.
