Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Every dog has its day in this industry...

Nike will have upswing eventually.
When hot brands Hoka, On, adidas, Asics slow down, it will have its chance.

the job for Nike is to be ready when that chance comes up.
Not sure if EH will be here 3 years down the line but Nike needs to be ready for the chance that it will have to move up.
It is not if but rather when and how much ready you will be to take advantage when the opportunity comes up

OP, have you ever heard of a company called Reebok? Under Armour? LA Gear? Fila?

At one short point Reebok was the #1 company in this industry. At a different point LA Gear was #3, trailing only adidas and Nike. Fila was once the #4 player. Avia, Starter, Champion, Keds, And1, and others have also had meteoric climbs they couldn’t sustain.

As investment companies always warn us, “Past performance is no guarantee of future results.” Nike could come back. It could also just as easily experience a slow fade.

History tells us that once a company loses its mojo it has 1 to 3 years to make a turnaround. Nike is now entering year 3. We’ve got about 12 months to learn whether Nike turns around or whether it’s best days are forever behind it.

Nike can stage a com back only if they bring some competency into the company that can strategically plan and align people.

I was with Nike for about 10 years, before that other F500 companies in finance, and what I noticed was the disparity between organizations. Management had their "kingdoms" to build so everyone built singular systems, very micro thinking instead of macro thinking and called it a "matrix." It was incredibly inefficient and there was no way around it. To make up for all the cost of the inefficiencies, they passed the buck onto the customer and then...

There are so many "and then."

My prediction, they need to get competent people in there, go back to bare bones, zero based budgeting, invest in projects that actually align processes and people and recognize that all because a person has an MBA doesn't mean they "know" what the heck they're doing. Stick with a f'n plan...so many times a really good plan would come out and then (there I go again) the kingdom builders would have their hands out and squander the budget.

Whatever...I hope there is a rebound because I still have some stock...would have sold it all when I left but was talked out of it. :-/

Three stripe is eating up Nikes failure with a steel spoon and a grudge. Sorry Nike weakness has encouraged the smaller fish

@OP Nike has to hire more "shoe" people. Not MBAs
That is what's missing

I’m starting to see a shift in the market but everything is looking neutral or flat for all brands. Really no one has a grip on the consumer, this doesn’t mean positive or negative for Nike but maybe something to come because the consumer may be getting tapped out here. I hope I’m wrong on the latter part but personally Nike would benefit from less reorganizations and changes in leadership.

Not saying the leadership team is good but the constant changing of guard has a significant impact on any type of momentum or work.

@OP is going to take a lot more than Jordan rich Rose to revitalize Nike. The brand has been living off the Jordan stimulus package far too long and with no major innovation in the past 10 years things aren't looking good
