Never assume Medtronic asking you to move means they plan to keep you around. I've seen people make a huge life change and uproot their entire families for an offer that came with a move and then lose that same job soon afterward.

Goes to show you that Medtronic only cares about you if you make the company millions of dollars.
Years ago MDT was notorious for doing this to ExPats. They would send someone and their family overseas for 2-3 years, huge expense and complications,.... and then as that assignment came to an end, zero support to find a repatriation role. Quite a few came back to float around for a few months and then ended up leaving the company, not because of performance, in fact they were high performers valued enough to get those assignments - but MDT would value quarterly P/L management over placing a high talent.
Interesting post but I agree with you. Unless your a recent college grad or under then 40 with no family. Why someone other then a VP would even consider a relocation to save a job? IMO
