Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Woman taking Leave of Absence

There are so many woman taking LOA as of September 30. What a luxury to take a year off amid massive restructuring! Right now in the Finance everybody knows there are huge cuts coming. Everybody knows after Polaris is implemented there is no need for that staff. And everybody knows if you are late 40s early 50s your risk to get PIPd is high. And I’ve heard from several people now in the after Polaris they will begin offering packages to those close to retirement.

If you can afford a year or two without salary because you saved or have an executive husband, you save being PIPd, still get years of vesting, health insurance, and leave with a package.

Goal- get EP or OP and then take leave, say, mid September thru the holidays. If you are not here at end October, they won't PA you the following year. And your EP/OP is the default for your subsequent year's comp treatment.
Incredibly ridiculous rule but factual. These ladies know what they are doing.
Oh, best part, you know it's easiest to look for a job when you have heaps of time!

@cw I took a leave 5 years ago to take care of sick family and my manager said I was safe up until 6 months. After that, he could not guarantee my job when I returned.

Well, the way EM is zealously promoting women, soon it’ll be the men taking LOA while their exec wives pay the bills.

@at Very true. This entitled teammate spent months brainwashing our useless manager, then disappeared on maternity leave for four months. When she finally came back, not even a simple “thank you” to the teammate who carried her workload. But the entire four months she was busy posting on LinkedIn like she was some kind of hero.

Whoah, wait. Don’t you lose protected status if you exceed the company allowed parental leave? If I recall, there is fine print saying there is no guarantee of a job when you return. I also vaguely remember the company executing on it during the COVID layoff. ….so that’s a pretty risky strategy if just trying to freeze your ranking for a cycle.

@ag Oh please, give me a break. Some people milk these “cards” way too hard. Benefits are great when they’re given fairly and evenly, not when someone turns them into a personal PR campaign. Posting nonstop on LinkedIn about how “amazing” you are for wearing ten hats while you’re out on baby vacation, meanwhile half the team covered your workload and you didn’t even bother acknowledging it. Trust me, you’re not the only person who’s ever become a new parent.

@ag Ha paternity leave? What is that? The most ExxonMobil ever gave me was three days for paternity and then they sent me on a business trip overseas. Wife recovering from a c-section. My supervisor literally said that is what your mother in law is for.

I guess I wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t so clearly driven by skipping the assessment process.

@ag Disagreed. I do mind carrying more weight Exxon cannot staff properly. Already overloaded working 60+ hour weeks.

You wouldn't be mad if you needed to take maternity, paternity and/or FLMA for yourself, so why get mad at someone else? Wasn't that long ago there was little to no benefit for growing a family. Is it abused? Maybe, buy how do know it is? It's none of our business if someone needs to take time off. Yeah - it probably puts a bit more burden for those still in the office, but I don't mind carrying a bit more weight if it meant someone else benefits from it.

So frustrating to see this policy abused. Note that when a hipo resignes they often ask them to take a LOA instead in case things don’t work out so they can just come right back. Wouldn’t that be a nice option.
