manager: "I’m expected to set priorities, resolve tradeoffs, develop talent, coordinate across functions, and create accountability" but isn’t this the full scope of what all ICs supposed to do? Individual contributors already juggle their technical workload, and they’re obligated to take on all the managerial responsibilities on top of it but without the title, authority, or benefits.

@bw yes it's tough... but they are protected from PIP at least more than ordinary IC
@a5 You try administering the sh-t ranking system and see how easy it is to be a manager. Try putting people in NSI and NI and Good who you know do not deserve it and instead should be receiving bonuses and raises but are being told they su-k and not given any raise.
