Why does XOM make everything so difficult across the board. Even the simplest and most efficient processes have built in ‘tension points’ which add no value apart from extra work and more stress. What is wrong with our leaders that they want to do this each and every day and make people’s life’s miserable

I just cringe when the word tension point is used. How about we just work together and do the best for the business instead of using BS bingo to be able to be a ahole
The EM system is designed such that an id--t can compile data gathered by id--ts, package the id--t data and present in PowerPoint to an Id--t Manager, and succeed without any experienced person involved.
Such a system seems stupid and cumbersome to experienced people with knowledge and experience.
@OP Because the work itself is easy. If you’re working in the office of a large oil/gas company, your main job is look/sound the part and play at politics.
The actual work boils down virtual meetings, spreadsheets, and slide decks, and a lot of the technical work is just documentation and reviewing data. Rather than enjoy this for what it is, you people all figured out a way to make each other miserable for no apparent reason.
This is what happens when a company gets too large. We have too many layers of bureaucracy to be efficient.
We have been so successful for so long that we no longer promote “leaders”. We only promote “followers” who are all too eager to promote the latest bad idea or plan.
I saw a brief glimpse of efficiency again when we were losing money during Covid.
Once the good times returned…..so did the stupidity.
Because we employ people who brag about working long hours on the weekend.
Because you can only do your job if someone sees you doing it.
Because there isn't a straight line walking path in the quad.
And obvious decisions require months of study and endless reviews before they can be made.
