Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Consequences of just quitting versus giving 2 weeks

Will they pay out unused vacation?
Can they block my next start date via legal action?

The only people who won’t applaud you just telling them to take this job and shove it are people who you don’t want to be associated with anyway. Most of us are trying to leave and would be happy to give the company a big fu-k you when we leave. Do a glory lap on the ring road while you are at it.

None. Two weeks if you need the money, if not, just leave. Burn the f.cking bridges, if the company can no give you the opportunity to stay for two weeks as professionalism speaking, why give them two weeks notice. The kiss@sses that try to scare you about the two weeks, they try to show that the company is good.

None. Literally none.
Get everything lined up. Then do unto them as they do unto you/others.

They would fire you at the drop of a hat so why not fire them in the same way.

Small risk from xom but the gossip mill will speculate it was a for cause termination and specualte on cause. Hr to send your final check and cobra and any other benefits or money owed but some possible delays as they may be missing some signatures. Many times they are happy you left and you get paid the full 2 weeks as if you gave 2 weeks notice and everything goes smoothly. NOTE : you are likely non -regrettable resignation... they want you gone .

But your reputation may get tarnished...not by XOM but the your colleagues you left in a bind and they will speculate and come up with all the bad reasons you left suddenly and when they shift companies you will be remembered...YOU BURNT YOUR OWN BRIDGES. So It is a D-MB do this if you value your reputaation with people includng managers you burned on your exit. It is a small industry with only 2 degrees of separation on a global basis. Keep your reputation high. many xom managers and people end up in key positions elsewhere. They will remember the details of your exit or the "speculation' once rumor mill gets going and you will be a high risk future hire by any one that heard about your departure.

For example, your sudden departure could look like a "for cause termination and the rumor mill is dangerous to your reputation. Better to give two weeks notice and get walked out on same day. That way you control reasons for your exit.

@OP Nope. You (full time employee) are not doing anything illegal. Check your job offer it's at will. You can leave any time you want with or without notification.
