Management are actively trying to suppress promotions; and trying to plant the idea that lateral moves are "just as good" in terms in career advancement.
The target is to reduce PSG 24+ by 30-40% over the next 3 years. This will be mostly natural attrition. However, it means that there will little, if any, promotions to these PSGs.
Management are exempt from these rules and will continue placing into PSG 26,27,28,29 are per usual.
Technical Career Ladder employees are doomed.

You can already see this taking shape. Another cost reduction effort. They are focused on bringing in cheap labor- even offshore and mostly kids right out of college without work experience.

There was a time when PSG 25 was the terminal grade for technical experts who did not take on significant management roles. From what I hear, we might be returning to that state, with higher-PSG Petrotec folks being pushed out over the next few years. Management is returning to the view that Petrotec roles are interchangeable cogs, with no need for SMEs or research for that matter (buy fast-follow as needed). Who needs a Technology Center when AI will supply all the new workflows?

This is 100% correct . Many wells folks who moved payroll recently got demoted. Likewise many have quit recently.
