@e8 Earlier, white collar jobs were still largely US based. So if greedy companies ship both white and blue collar jobs overseas, where are people supposed to work. Why even have colleges? Most other countries do have lower wages than the US.
@dj by that logic Apple, IBM, and every US company with foreign factories should have failed years ago.
Americans will still consume more. Perhaps not those whose jobs were offshored. As someone said, it’s not good. But it is happening. Question is how can you protect yourself. Complaining here may be cathartic but ultimately impotent.
@de The hilarious and sad part is that at some point these companies won't be able to sell products and services in the US and turn a profit, because they literally collapse their revenue because nobody can afford the products and services because these same companies keep sending the jobs overseas to people who don't buy their products and services!!!!
@bz At some point, someone is going to ask where Americans are supposed to work. When manufacturing went overseas, everyone was told to "learn to code". But now all of those jobs are going to India/Philippines. Young people are unfortunately the largest victims of this. The people who make decisions to do this must not worry about the kids in their own family or the kids of their friends having opportunities like they did. I guess it won't stop til it affects the tax base so much that the national debt can no longer be payed and jurisdictions no longer have them money to provide services. Less and less people will be paying into Social Security too. It is just a selfish and nasty thing to do. It is not even about making money, but making more money than ever and sc--w everyone else. And the elephant in the room is there is a lapse in quality. You have to wonder with the continuous announcements of data breaches and hacks if this soft of thing contributes. It is certainly sad what this world has turned into.
Agree. Globalization is a bi--h when it’s up close. Manufacturing went through this years ago. Now financials. Nobody is saying it’s fair. But it is here.

@az It is true. This place was mismanaged to the point that they had to throw this Hail Mary and wing it with IT infrastructure, and whatever function comes next. It is interesting how just a little over a decade ago how serious they took all of that. Now, they eagerly hand access to all of their customer's' financial and personal information to individuals who are thousands of miles away, in a low trust society who are not bound by US laws with the near impossible ability to provide 100% oversight, and this is viewed as some sort of genius efficiency move.
My group had to train these people. We were told they were experienced. These people were not even beginners. Anyone who has ever been through something like that knows how it rips your soul right out of you. You felt like you did everything right in life - pursued education, worked hard, showed loyalty to this company, and instead they toss you to the curb in favor of foreign labor that did not have to do any of that. And the kicker is it becomes YOUR job to set them up for success as you get forced out into an uncertain and stressful period of your life. I did not want to do it. I am sure nobody does. But few can financially weather the decision to pass it up. I got through it. Afterwards I felt dirty. I felt like a prost---te collecting my payment off the bureau on the way out. But now this company can pay an entire team what it used to pay one associate. Similarly, the offshore workers work jobs that people in western countries would make exponentially more. Watching white manager men interact with them on Teams calls reminded me of British Imperialism in India.
i can’t bring myself to feel bad for the accenture workers. they are being exploited sure, but willingly and at the expense of actual talented people who have worked hard to build a career at trowe.
