Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Leaders with BS degrees

Crummy colleges like Strayer University or 3rd world college mills. DEI candidates majoring in "organizational leadership" (wtf kind of degree is that). Leaders not qualified to do entry level work in their organizations because they lack certifications. sum result is a bunch of employees who are pretenders when it comes to working.

Point being Verizon needs to ask itself if it wants intelligent leadership, or a bunch of crash test dummies collecting paychecks

My experience has been they promoted the hardest workers who cannot manage or lead to save their lives. They end up usually ruining entire workgroups. They are not able to lead people.

Many moons ago the company would ask experienced technicians if they wanted a promotion to mgmnt. Had better pay, benefits, etc. Then Bell Atlantic was created then merged with Nynex. Started going downhill then the birth of Verizon came. It was a sinking vessel for mgmnt. They don’t even bother to as if you want mgmnt anymore. Half the bosses haven’t clue one how anything works. Even if you’re d-mb enough to take it all you have to look forward to is no job security and the next rif.

All tech /office is based on bizarre nonsensical words, overinflated bs titles and doing a LOT of nothing unless you are technical hands-on trades.

@b6 Those other places were cost prohibitive so you had to go elsewhere.

Most of my senior leaders in Value do not even have the most basic AA. They are all buddies that have been here forever that started laying cables and someone thought that they made a good Senior Director. It’s a shame.

@OP That’s just one problem among many. The only thing that might save Verizon is that there are only 2 other peer competitors and they’re equally dysfunctional.

@b6 Strayer isn't regional. It was the "school" VZ had a partnership with that HR forced employees to get a degree from to get promoted to directors and above.

@OP "I came here shortly after my graduation from Cal Tech, Calcutta Technical Institute, as the top student in my graduating class of seven million."

The premise is silly, so many of us went to regional colleges due to the cost. Not because we could not go elsewhere.

Most accurate and root cause failure of Verizon.

But don't think just Verizon... Frontier's CEO, Stratton, High School Diploma.

Point being... to get work done.. high quality. CEO tole.. figure head.

@a7 Who said promotions came from doing work?

According to one of the top tier executives on a national all hands call a couple of years ago, if your career has stalled, maybe it's because you haven't taken a manager out to lunch so they could get to know you.

No one could believe he actually said the quiet part out loud on a national call.

Experience? Nope
Proven track record? Nope
Best at what you do? Nope

Take him out to lunch and attach your lips firmly to his lower grommet?

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

When discussed in the days and weeks afterwards every manager up to the director said it is who you know not what you know that will get you promoted. And whether or not you are willing to tow the company or org line even if it is morally and legally questionable.

Some of us knew then that we were never going to move up.

Others did move up... and quickly. After buying a huge supply of chapstick of course.

2 years later and the titles are the same, the work is the same, the problems and solutions are the same.

But the entire upline has changed 3 or 4 times all the way to the CEO.

Some out but most up.

It seems there is profit in kneeling before the grommet of power if you can stomach the taste.

@a9 ppl managing the cyber teams most likely do not know the difference between crackz, hackz, and scriptz.

And probably don't know the difference between a DIMM and a SIMM. Even though Verizon systems are probably full of SIMMs

@a5 How come BA in EN literature?

  1. Enhanced ability use $5 words without understanding the context.
  2. Able to read and memorize an exhaustive list of corporate buzz words and work them into every conversation even if they have to circle back when they get stuck on one.
  3. They support great works of fiction by creating their own works of fiction when submitting reports of what their teams accomplished to hit their KPIs.
  4. Upline management with the same degree who are given those reports recognize a great work of fiction and put their stamp of approval on it.
  5. Motivated by self promotion through the love of words and fiction rather than doing what is best for Verizon.
  6. Experts at being able to speak so beautifully about what they do and are doing that no one realizes they haven't a clue about what they do or are doing.
  7. Lacking the ability to dazzle people with brilliance and experience, they will always confuse people with a word salad.
  8. Able to say the same thing 10 times using completely different words so everyone fully believes that have been presented with 10 uniquely different and brilliant ideas. (And lack of upline experience means they don't even notice they have been grifted)

BONUS: They can read between the lines and know when they are being told to lie, cheat, and steal to win for the good of themselves and the team without being told to lie, cheat, and steal to win for the good of themselves and the team.

@a3 The evil Anglo Alliance again? Wow. Way to deflect with a lost argument post about a fictional enemy. Please expand on your point. Is it something like the only legit degrees come from one country and "the man" is holding you down?

There is enough su-k to go around. You don't have hog it all pretending to be the only victim here. Look around you. We come in all shades and we are all brothers and sisters of the su-k. You ain't special. And, sorry to break it to you, that ain't because of where you are from.

Embrace the su-k.
