Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Will Medtronic ever return to its mission?

Seriously, with the constant push for mega tech corpo culture these past few years will Medtronic ever return to its actual mission of helping patients rather than helping “consumers”?

Throughout my years at Medtronic, I frequently found myself depleted and exploited by senior leadership. Unrealistic project milestones routinely compressed workloads into untenable timelines, while emotional bullying—ranging from veiled threats to open mockery—was a recurring experience, most often at the hands of senior leaders.

In those moments, I could not help but ask: if Medtronic is unwilling to care for me, why should I continue to care for Medtronic?

@n8

So basically if a company just focus on quarterly growth at the cost of burning out their workers, then the company will soon fail.

I would highly recommend the book Incorruptible: Why Good Companies Go Bad and How Great Companies Stay Great. The author argues that corporate mission drift is a structural design failure rather than a personal or ethical one.

Core Premise: Financial Gravity
The Problem: Companies founded with strong ideals often drift toward short-term thinking and extractive behavior.
The Cause: Ries calls this "financial gravity"—the invisible pressure exerted by growth, ownership models, incentives, and decision-making systems.
The Result: Even well-intentioned leaders are forced by poorly designed corporate systems to abandon their original missions

Even though MDT is not mentioned in the book, it is sad and uncanny how closely Medtronic’s story follows it.

In addition to negative examples (like J&J), the book then goes through how to fix it and some positive examples (like Costco) as well.
