The managers who sign off on stand and delivers are not competent to evaulate them

All management has reached their level of incompetence as per the Peter Principle. There is no hope at IBM.

IBM got a little carried away with the whole badge thing. Also some people there file useless patents to get their name out there

@f1 I would argue it’s our direct managers and their managers. They know better. They know what they are doing is incompetent but they follow orders without question towing the company line. No push back. They are the real villains of the story. We see and interact with them daily. They are the bad guys here.

By contrast, many truly knowledgeable, conscientious, dedicated folks - authentic SME's - have actually gotten PIP'd/RA'd.

A lack of product knowledge is far more about how IBM “trains” its “SMEs”. A handful of videos and a couple stand and delivers for example - don’t make you an expert in enterprise level software that takes people years and years to become SMEs with.

IBMs thinking: “just do these two level 3 Tech Seller classes, and once you pass your stand and deliver, you’re ready to run a PoC.”

It’s a F’ing joke and I feel terrible for all the people that IBM puts in front of customers who have no business giving a PoC. I’m guessing they do this to make people leave.

What do you mean? Everything is GREAT at IBM...You too can become an "IBM sales manager" in under 2 years if only you had these skills. SMH.

I think most problems at IBM is because got rid of smart workers, especially Chinese. As result don't have talent needed because most employees lack intelligence maybe. This cause big problems.

Yeah people, the incompetence is mind blowing. And numbing. Everyone: start building up your badges. We've got to get our collective act together before this whole place gets flushed. Save rhe IBM shithole!

Only bootlickers would care about employees unwilling and/or unable to do good work for this shithole. Isn't executive compensation already high enough?

In Albany this is so apparent. They’ll get a new thick resist to tackle bow, but never ask the basic question: how are we removing it downstream?, and what tools can actually handle it?

You have engineers whose very debatable “success” 10–15 years ago are now making major technical and business decisions, while their favorite underlings just yes-man them instead of challenging anything. They’re basically cosplaying as industry experts and business leaders, and constantly falling flat on their faces. How many projects have failed because some ridiculously basic issue popped up that anyone with a little logic could have seen coming a mile away? It’s happening habitually in IBM Albany. And they just reshuffled and put in charge of a new project to lead to another eventual failure. Rinse and repeat.
