Tell him you're always looking. You want to find a better job within the company or a job that more you completely utilizes your skills. You want to increase the value to the company and you think you can do that if there is another job that matches those skills you have

She apparently made the mistake of being polite and not being direct enough with you. Go away and leave her alone. And do not come back. Throw out the birthday card she sent you years ago - it didnt mean she wanted you. It meant at the time she had no idea you would latch onto it and think it was a a signal for something deeper. You are aiming for more than friends. She is not. And she does not want to be your friend. And she doesnt owe you an explanation or communication. Be honest with yourself. Stop with the pity party and crying about it online. You make her life harder and you make life harder for every other guy out here with creepy cannot take a hint attitude. You held a torch for her for 7 years and I truly feel sorry for her - not you.

I tell my manager when I get job offers and we talk through it. It’s a pretty good professional relationship.
Perfect advice. No one needs to know and when you do finally tell your manager that you're leaving, be 1000% sure you are. None of this "I'm thinking about..." cr-p. Don't do it. Ever!

Information is power and you should keep every to yourself until you are ready to share it, use it, or deploy it to your advantage.
