Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

Which seletion criteria is going to be used for Irish employees?

164 employees are going to be laid off but many more have been informed that their job is at risk. This means a decision has to be made on who is staying and who is going. Do you have any insights as to which selection criteria is going to be used?

@aa Agree. And on the topic of nominating representatives, only if there are too many nominations will HR decide by 'lottery'. So if we wanted non 'chumps' to represent, then we need to get organised.
Might not get many more answers but it might give a little more control to the questions asked and that get the most attention in consultations.

Think we all want to know:

  • Specific and by dept selection criteria
  • If shares will be vested early that were due to be paid out in light of the new process for annual rewards this year
  • Will those with a sabbatical due this year be paid out
  • Will PayPal commit to a similar severence package in the event of further redundancies in the future for those that are kept

Also for those impacted that don't have metrics, would be interested in how they will decide on a 'selection criteria' for them?

But agree imagine the decision is likely already made and they'll have to find a criteria to make the decision fit.

The "consultation" is the most ridiculous pretense of workers' rights I have ever seen. We do not have a union, or any representatives that know what they are doing or have a mandate to negotiate anything. The company chooses a couple of chumps and simply notifies them of what is happening, then we sit around for 30 days waiting for whatever they already decided to take place. If this was anywhere else in Europe we would have union representatives at the table with actual negotiations taking place while the rest are protesting outside the office.

The few Irishmen who don't drink on the job will be kept. Heard it from a reliable source.

The decision has probably already been made, I agree. That doesn't change the fact that a selection criteria was used. What is the decision criteria beside pure business need/priority? Another question is who gets to decide? At what level is the decision made? Manager? Director? VP?

@a6 this.
The whole 'negotiating phase' is a sham, basically a tick box excercise they HAVE TO take part in. Otherwise, they would not give a d**n.

@a5 100% they already know the exact people that are going to be let go

The consultation period is simply a formality
