Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

@24m of course there are problems at other companies too, i have seen some of those situations myself before the bullseye, but current state is exceptionally bad here and i've never seen people so unhappy

@gg You are so right about the same cr-p existing elsewhere. The previous company I was in prior to Target was also a sh-t show. Poorly managed and “leaders” being toxic a--holes yet they were kept on the payroll.

Corporate in general su-ks. Still hoping to find companies that truly value their employees and that doesn’t treat them as numbers when they are no longer valuable to their bottom line.

PS: Those “anonymous” surveys they send out aren’t anonymous. Say one bad thing to complain about the company, the culture or your workload, and they will manage you out.

@bm For me, yes. It got me out of my comfort zone enough to think about possibilities for once. When you are going through the motions and on that hamster wheel churning out work, and the only free time you have is the weekends (most of the time because some weekends I was also putting in hours!!!) - you finally have so much time on your hands being unemployed to think of your next steps. In my case, it was seeking additional educational credentials for a potential career pivot. For others, it may be exploring another area or adjacent field. It differs for many in our position, but I think having that free time to just FORCE YOURSELF to explore what else is out there is liberating - even if at first VERY INTIDIMATING. The unknowns always are! Good luck to everyone!

My old company another fortunate 500 in MN hasn’t had a post since 2024 and before that 2020. There’s been small scale layoffs/role eliminations throughout the time but they do not have employees panicking on an anonymous forum like good ole tar-zhay

@gg how would you say change is good for the soul?

The same can be said for the grass is greener pov leaving any company, it's not unique to Target. Change in general can be good for the soul. Have experienced this first hand leaving 3 companies, Target being one of them. Also have learned, the same cr-p can exist anywhere... but glad you are enjoying your current view

@f9 the last time I interacted with one. I told them I wanted a software development job. And they kept giving me it or factory jobs. Then they refused to lose my number for years.

On the flip side, they would just ghost me.

What is the concern with interacting with recruiters?

I fully expect more layoffs and rto requirements. So I am constantly checking up on this page. Passively looking for something better but I don't fully trust interacting with recruiters.

I too was forced out after 24 years at Target. And yes, life outside of Target is fantastic! I miss the people I worked with for so long, but my new company is so refreshing.
