FTEs got laid off, contractors stayed on AND many got their contract renewed till 2027/12, right before the layoff! Contractors cost WAY MORE than FTEs, the math just doesn't add up!!!!

Contractors are opex and do not carry employee liability on the books. If they are required to run the business it is preferable as a running cost rather than keeping a FTE on books. Contractors can be terminated without any cause with no severance or warn
I'm sure health benefits has something to do with it
@OP YES!!! I know someone who got contract secured for next year (way early!!), AND, it was through this person's own company, so it's definitely 50%-100% more than the FTE salary.
