Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

MetLife the past 10 years

A crummier company led by cynical, gaslighting people who worry more about "shareholder value" (and value of their stock holdings) than the financial and mental well-being of their employees.

@cw You can't just be an employee, you also have to be an investor.

@5bd Yes. That was the Asian marketing lady from Coca-Cola. She felt she had to do something to make her presence felt. She's also responsible for the green/blue color scheme.

The current marketing guy is nearly invisible. I have no idea what he has done.

@f8 Re: the Peanuts characters I think the license ran out and they didn't renew it. IIRC at the time there was a new head of Marketing so I'm sure that factored into the decision. From an old timer who was laid off by Met years ago.

@r9 It's hard to see how this doesn't all eventually collapse like a house of cards. Client satisfaction is the last thing on the C-suite's minds.

That $3B in stock buybacks that's planned will definitely help the shareholders. Won't do sh-t for the rest of us. Can't even get a working Ethernet cable half the time in Cary

lol peace is a cesspool. Current workers can’t see it as the company su-ks your will to leave of you’re a decent person. If you’re a POS they promote you. It’s toxic and I’m head they cut ties with peanuts and snoopy back when they did as that’s when it got really bad. It is better once you leave. So hang in there! Get fired or laid off to get your severance!

Bah. Defend your down votes. Or better, go find someone that used to live in Cuba, or Venezuela, or North Korea or behind the iron curtain. Talk to them and ask what it was like to live in such socialist/communist "paradises".

Capitalism is a good thing about the USA. It's why half the world wants in.

@cb No. Capitalism would be another company coming along that treats its employees better and manages the ones they have better taking employees from the poorer employers and getting better ideas and more production out of them by treating them better.

That, my friend, is a market.

We must be careful not to full for the socialist/communist tripe that seems to be the rage lately. Capitalism has it's faults, but competition and markets are generally good for everyone.

By "delivering for our shareholders", the execs actually mean, further lining their own pockets. The earnings call is a chance to pat themselves on their backs on the millions of dollars they personally earned the previous quarter. Listen carefully and you will notice no thanks or rewards for employees ever mentioned. It's an ugly hierarchy there. The AVPs and above are all "coached" to only engage with those in their department, avoid any eye contact or engagement with anyone outside of their department, and certainly avoid anyone below their title. These people really need to get off their high horses and start acting like human beings and not stoic robots. This is the culture pushed by upper management and yet they gaslight us that "it's a great place to work".

Get out while you can and get a pay raise.

Even better if they offshore or replace you with an H1B and give you a nice severance.

The grass is greener outside. Good luck.
