What's the story with RCSA?

I'm being pulled into RCSA and I'm trying to figure out what the logistics are for that. Lots of travel? Crazy hours? Anyone know what the story is with the day-to-day work on RCSA? Thanks

Post ID: @3pwp+1lm9Eofp it really depends on your role and team you get assigned. The biggest issue is RAUs are constantly changing locations because each Rau is different. they have different issue which have different controls required. so it’s ever changing. workshops last all day. then after the workshops ends you still have additional work to do, bc the timelines are so tight you do not have multiple days to complete these items. instead you are expected to have it done by the next day. I have heard of people working from 6am-8pm. you are working weekends. I worked 6 hrs super bowl weekend. again the biggest issue here is everything is team led and not program led, so your counterpart could be governed under different rules and guidelines for the same program.

How many hours per day, and for how long, might some team members be required to work on RCSA?

@3pzn+1lm9Eofp without a significant pay increase I just can’t see how they are going to recruit anyone or retain anyone. honestly everyone I know in the program are looking for another job. they are miserable with the number of hours and how they are managing us.

@3uzt+1lm9Eofp They have been looking for contractors for months too. I think they are having trouble filling the roles. Word is out not only about the company, but also RCSA.

hi there, I am the poster of RCSA post from before. here is what I said with names redacted

I just wrote review on RCSA and leadership requiring staff to work international hours stateside and still required to badge in 3 days a week and how leadership refuses to do blanket exception but instead leaving direction up to individual management. so as result you have staff/understudies badge swapping at 3/4/5/6 am. working 15 hrs days. and for what? while these leaders are still sleep in their 1k count egyptian silk sheets or riding their peloton overlooking their manhattan apartment view are gaining quarterly bonuses with no regard for their staff. I also warned they are just signing random people up for this project without time regard and no selection option on which region you will support your schedule the most . some teams support Asia and are required to work these hours for months without any bonuses, title changes or anything. some how my original post was removed and it makes me wonder why? was it because it’s the truth and it’s too dangerous if others know rcsa is not well ran and basically just a project to get top leaders retention bonuses if it goes well and the individuals who are actually badging and commuting in at the crack of dawn and the leaders who are unable to make any real life decisions are sleep, please know this will have more people dropping from this horrible run bank and organization. if your leader says rcsa run.

OP here I want to provide some additional color here bc I do not want anyone else to be bamboozled here! The program is looking to expand teams bc of the burnout and how badly the bank is doing across the board. They do not have enough external people posting for these roles or staying long enough. so leadership has been told to fill the open positions with their top talent. Those leaders are explaining this as
great career booster, an opportunity to network, and/or make more money. These are all lies. The only people who are getting retention bonuses are the lead of the RAU and those bonuses are contingent on how well each workshop goes. The workshops last approx 4 weeks and the group has you for at least a full year. you will not get a title change, so you have Sr managers doing the same work output as specialist but the disparity in pay is absurd. Not to mention after the 8-9 hr workshop, you are expected to attend additional breakout sessions and complete homework. this is how a 9 hr day can easily turn into 14. not to mention your RAU location changes monthly, so one month you could be working west coast hrs and the next month east coast. Also I failed to mentioned the RAUs are in person so you are expected to travel but they do not tell you until a week before your RAU starts if you are in person or virtual for this round. so if you have babysitting constraints there isn’t really anything you can do. again all for the same pay and RTO expectations as the dude in the cubical next to you playing their switch on company time whose taking a 3hr extended lunch break. it’s so nice to reward your best employees with burn out

I'm testing controls that have been through the RCSA workshops and they've made the documentation worse, they have not improved ANYTHING. Controls that passed before are failing across the board for documentation issues... Doesn't make much difference as my W or NI has been changed to E several times.

Most of the risks identified in RSCA are for hypothetical scenarios that will likely never occur and even if they did, wouldn't actually result in the exposure that the hypothetical scenario suggests.

But you can't actually prove that it won't ever occur (except that we've never had a known instance of the supposed risk) and if you push back, you seem like a reckless, non-risk focused maverick in a world where 'from a risk perspective' culture is worshipped.

Nobody wants to go through the BS of documenting controls for this cr-p. But we have to so that 2nd and 3rd line have something to look at.

Despite being 'held' accountable to 'own' their process, be prepared to rely on SMEs and not the actual RAU Owners for accurate risk and control identification. The owners (Director level roles) are crying like big babies because they don't feel they need to know all the ins and outs of their processes and therefore want their front line lackeys to answer most questions for them. Or obviously 'help' them answer questions via Skype on the side. ;)

It's insane to me that people who know nothing about the process nor have extensive RCSA experience are being 'volunteered' or temporarily reallocated from current roles for these workshops. Realize you or anyone in the workshop WILL go down down if/when the risks are not properly identified or if the controls are not adequate to actually mitigate risk. This C-suite regime will throw all in that workshop under the bus and run you over for ANY issues that hit media attention going forward.

Good luck!

The whole RCSA thing is like a beach house when it's cold outside, and no one wants to pay the rent.

So instead, everyone gets in the pedal wagon and drinks to excess before heading back to make the sausage.

If you're being pulled into RCSA, you better cut off the person's arm and run away as fast as you can. You will be more miserable doing RCSA work than you probably already are from working at this place.

"Here's what I do, here's how I do it and here's how I make sure I'm doing it right."

The controls need to have actual value. Why are we doing this is the first and most important question. Is there value in doing this? If not, let's get rid of it.

Too much time and effort is wasted on doing things that just do not make sense.

The amount of time it takes is wholly dependent on the level of controls and procedure documentation a group has. RCSA is not new. I first worked on documenting our controls in 2010. In groups already with RCSA in place changing over to the new process and way to document is not bad. Although this is like the 4th time in the last 5 years. If the business does some pre-work to be better prepared it goes smoothly. If there is resistance, then not so much. It's such a simple concept. Here's what I do, here's how I do it and here's how I make sure I'm doing it right.

Essentially the previous poster indicated very long hours with very little sleep starting early morning and late evening to work around offshore teams. Also must follow 3 day rto with very little sleep.

Man! I am really c o n s t i p a t e d.

Is anyone else?!

It's like giving birth without all the maternity leave and people fawning. Totally not fair.

Also, down with RTO, and anyone that supports it.

The “in-person” week of the workshop is held wherever the RAU owner wants it held, which is typically where the RAU owner is located, So if you want to know where the in-person week will be held, find out where the RAU owner is located and that’s likely your best bet.

You maybe should look back at the previous person that posted about it a week or so ago before you offer yourself up.

I may be getting pulled into this too. Is the in person component in Charlotte? They were looking for Charlotte resources to be “volunteered”

Most RCSA events are in person the first week and then remote the remaining weeks. The actual "workshop" typically is 3-4 weeks. Workshop sessions run about 5 hours a day where all participants are together and then another approx. 2 hours a day for "break out sessions" for the front-line and IRM.

The time spent also depends on if you are front-line or IRM. If you are front-line (either control or the business), it will consume much, if not all of your time for the approximate 2-3 months for RCSA (it's not just workshop, but work goes in before workshop, then there's a week or two of "pre-workshop", then "post-workshop", etc.).

Just change jobs if they are making RCSA be your day to day. If you’re just getting pulled into a workshop stick it out.
