REUTERS: U.S. probes Wells Fargo's retention of employee communications

Does anyone have any details on this? The unapproved messaging tools, and who exactly has been using them?

Feb 21 (Reuters) - U.S. regulators are investigating Wells Fargo & Co's (WFC.N) retention of employee communications over "unapproved" messaging tools, the bank said on Tuesday, the latest in a crackdown that has already sparked billions of dollars in fines.

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission have undertaken the probes, the fourth-largest U.S. bank disclosed in a filing.

The scrutiny highlights the challenges Wall Street institutions have faced in tracking staff communications in the work-from-home pandemic era, particularly over personal devices and apps like WhatsApp.

Most have now adopted hybrid-work models, which allow employees to divide their time between office and remote arrangements.

In September, the SEC fined 16 financial firms, including major global banks, a combined $1.8 billion after staff discussed deals and trades on their personal devices and apps.

Earlier this month, France's third biggest bank Societe Generale (SOGN.PA) was also drawn into a probe by the U.S. securities regulator on whether its staff had used unauthorized messaging platforms.

@opf+1ljw7h79 So is the new head of M&A a coincidence or a preemptive move?

I was here. I read all the White Papers, the Independent Directors of the Board Sales Practices Investigation report, watched all the Senate Hearings, and read all the SEC’s Investigation’ reports on each one of the leaders charged with wrong-doing including John Stumpf’s cease and desist report.

Come back to me when you can have an informed conversation on the topic.

"right under the nose", guess you weren't here but like 4-5 thousand people were fired. And don't give me this innocent poor $15 dollar hour employee cr-p. They were doing crimes not for billions but for pennies in extra incentive pay, which makes them more super pathetic losers. JPM employees steal billions from the entire market, like multi times a year they are caught for massive crimes and the public hears nothing about it, its crazy.

I hate to throw Wells Fargo and other banks a bone, but I do have some mercy for WFC trying to move quickly from the Office to WFH at the beginning of the Pandemic. Shame on them for not having that capability for most of their business lines in the first place, but they still did get it done reasonably fast.

The problem is, and always will be, our outdated technology and the pressure to cut costs. In our department - they moved us to cheaper phones which are difficult to hear on, some bs WFC Internal Messaging system that is slow and clumsy, much of the attempts at oversight are manual, AND they cut employees.

Employees are going to do what they have to do to get their jobs done so as to not work 12 hour days.

Likely something regarding US Regulated employees. Anyone dealing with M&A activity, trade secrets, restricted information, etc. that could be used to manipulate markets or insider trading.

All done right under the nose and at the guidance of of bank managers, Regional managers, HR, Compliance, Carrie Tolstedt, John Stumpf, our BOD, and Richard Kovacevich

Let’s not blame the $15 per hour employees, shall we?

"JPM is into fancy high crimes, stealing billions rigging market, Bernie madoff and Disney princess stuff. WF employees are so d-mb and pathetic, they open accounts on customers for pennies in incentive comp. "

Sure, but what's that got to do with the price of tea in China?
