Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

The return to the office could be the real reason for the slump in productivity. Here’s the data to prove it

The return to office looks like it’s going backward. After office occupancy rose to over 50.4% in late January, it dropped to 45.6% by early February before recovering slightly to 48.6%. That’s despite many business leaders trying to get their employees back to the office in an effort to prevent “quiet quitting.”

RTO may impact my attitude somewhat however the tools that we are being forced into are the reason why I am unable to do my job and hence limited productivity.

Forced conversion to VDI - loss of all my files, no sharing via teams or skype (after 3 days), I have to dial into every meeting - audio does not work in skype or teams. Awful tools since the JP Morgan/Chase influence into Wells.....Horrific culture now, horrific tools

Rto may be directly related to commercial real estate losses now being experienced and dramatic forecasts for significant losses

Same here. All I've learned around the water cooler is that others also think Hudson Yards is full of S and "RTO" is mo--nic. Pretty sure that's not what the CEO/COO had in mind when they dictate from the ivory tower, but it's the truth. They should enjoy the candor, right? They say they do. On the other hand, they lie constantly so...

I have a job where there’s no one else who does what I do in our region. There’s not many of us around so it’s hard to find this skill concentrated in one geographical area. My manager said go to the office to “network.” The other people in my office work in ops and they’re genuinely in “banking.” (They’re awesome and do a great job) My required skills are not unique to the industry. I happen to work for a bank. Networking with people who do banking operations will not further my career despite this managerial talking point. We have very different skills, and both are necessary to the enterprise. Some jobs make sense to wfh if they want to attract/retain specialized talent and remain competitive. So I sit there alone like a fish out of water pondering what other companies are hiring. It makes no sense.

If they replace employees with overseas employees, they will have to replace their customers with overseas customers. No money no reason to have a bank. Also they will have to stop talking about being diverse if all they have are employees from India.

Replace low quality workers with better workers. It is globalization.

If it is not outsourcing and H1b program, bringing the best of the best, you will still be replaced by AI

“If you’re not will to take a pay cut, someone in India will be doing your job very soon.”

“If you’re not willing to work 70 hours per week, no OT, someone in India will be doing your job very soon.”

“If you think you need to take your PTO, someone in India will be doing your job very soon.”

“If you’re not willing to work when you’re sick/ injured, someone in India will be doing your job very soon.”

One has to be mature enough, and confident enough in their skills, to not be controlled by toxic threats of losing their job.

Interesting that you got all of that from 3 lines. Thank you for publicly re-inforcing my first impression of you. 😂

https://finance.yahoo.com/video/amazon-ceo-andy-jassy-calls-220230738.html

In this video, Barbara Corcoran says the power regarding RTO lies with the employees, not the employers. The sooner employers realize this, the better they will be able to run their business.

Some comments on this article say to fire employees who won’t come back. I don’t think Charlie or any CEO can take this stance unless they know how to do the work - all the work. Charlie and his posse don’t know or understand any of the inner workings of the bank. They are irrelevant to the operation.

Don’t make it our responsibility to “keep the citys alive” and/or “keep the economy alive”. Work is in a time of transition. Old businesses doing it the old way will die, but new innovative businesses will fill in and thrive. This is how we move forward.

“Change is the only constant in life.”

Might help to read the full article before commenting. It’s the opposite of your analysis. This author is pro-WFH, with possibly 1-2 days in the office as needed. Author explains that companies should understand that RTO costs employees more than WFH, and this needs to be taken in to consideration.

****”What explains the drop in productivity associated with quiet quitting?

Forcing employees to come to the office under the threat of discipline leads to disengagement, fear, and distrust, according to the director of research and strategy for workplace management at Gallup Ben Wigert,. Gallup finds that “the optimal engagement boost occurs when employees spend 60% to 80% of their time–or three to four days in a five-day workweek–working off-site.”****

My personal productivity and engagement are definitely down since RTO and particularly this year with the threat of corrective action. I take the commute time away from work, not my family.

It is hilarious that the author tries to sell RTO as the solution to quiet quitting when being forced to RTO is the biggest reason people are quiet quitting.

You mean routinely crapping all over your employees and lying to their face doesn't result in high morale/production? Noooo, really?

RTO is pointless. It’s about control, CRE portfolios, and attrition. Don’t let any of these useless managers convince you otherwise. If we were really “better together” the C suite wouldn’t be looking to offshore American jobs every chance they get to people that will work for penny’s on the dollar.
