Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What is the incentive to stay at WF and do your very best?

Sadly the worst thing WF can do for a team member is keep them on the payroll. We are all operating at a minimal pulse rate. Yes it is stressful to get let go unexpectedly, but more often than not it opens doors, it creates opportunities. In tech I know of less than 5 people who moved internally in 20+ years from technical to management. Is that really a good thing though? Jury is out!

What is the incentive to stay at WF and do your very best? There is no corporate ladder to climb. All that remains is parallel and sideways work; sweeping sand at the beach. The main incentive for over 20 years has been all about pay. This is the only important metric, not your performance rating, not whether you have friends at work, not because you are being watched as a good candidate for a better role, not because you single handedly showed up and interrupted your personal life off hours to prevent an outage from costing the bank x dollars in downtime.

But WF doesn't have a pay incentive, it keeps you in the 1-2.5% merit increase range each year, year after year after year.

Most of us need WF to nudge us out the door no matter if strategic or seemingly random. While I am still here on the mothership, I do not really care anymore about the reasons for why. It is not my job to work around layoffs and cover up holes. What is the incentive to do so? There is none.

This was too good to stay buried in the comments from a few weeks ago. Bumped from @1jxg+1lKxzfaH.

Great benefits, unbeatable PTO, promotional opportunities, and it's just in my nature to be a hard worker and high achiever. I personally think WF is a great place to work. Perfect? No, but no company is.

Starting PTO of 4 weeks somewhere is not the norm. I’ve been offered 10-12 days and rejected. Companies are not willing to even match 4 weeks to start.

Honestly, I have zero desire at 50 to start over somewhere. I am lucky to be able to support my kids on my own as a single parent, decent benefits, bonus, and great PTO. Not a lot of incentive to “do my very best” anymore, but do enough to keep employed and get a bonus.

Wells Fargo has been a chitplace long before woke-ism and DEI. Stop trying to tie it to that and acknowledge the real issue of cr-p executive leadership, lingering crooks, lack of respect (and care) for employees, white good old boy network and rampant nepotism (I see you CJ), ancient technology and inability to do anything quickly.

The pathetic men in my office, with your boney arms and pencil necks… what the fu-k have you done with your lives?

Not buying the "PTO is a reason to stay" bit. Take any random person at WF, tell them a new job at a different company will hire them for net $20k+ more (figuring $10k is clearly not enough to entice), but PTO is reduced to 4 weeks and no bank holidays.

In one shot you have made 5 years or more in income compared to staying at WF.

Always take the money when the money is enough to compensate for staleness in current role.

At this point, seeing the door hit CS/SP in the azz on their way out. They are a disgrace.

I'm part of a high-performing team that has devolved into a loosely connected group of individuals thanks to current executive management. Nothing that management is currently doing is going to fix that.

Literally the PTO is the only thing. Can’t go back to starting at 2 weeks a year.

Pay and benefits is what keeps me here.
I stopped producing like I used to since Wells places some employees above others in representation. News stories are cherry picked on which ones get accommodating emails sent out and which ones don’t. We saw the latest example with Nashville.
Why should I work hard for that now?
Everything woke turns to sh-t.
