Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It’s a new month isn’t it time for the next round of layoffs and asset sales?

Which groups, orgs and buildings? I’m hearing more support centers, finance, marketing, staff and engineering.

Bedminster is being moved to a smaller location off Route 202/206 so I do not consider that a hub?

not really feasible since the jnternet network resides in the CO. they would have to pay whoever they sold it to for access to the network. on top of that, they are moving c-ran mobility equipment to the CO.

There is a method to their madness, the more work they can create for you justifies their existence. Staff create useless programs that are a waste of time, if they worked as hard at removing roadblocks instead of creating them we would have a happier customer and work force. Most sit on the azz or stand around and talk for hours when thy are together.

Phase out service techs now for all I care cuz the technician job isn’t what it used to be! You’re constantly micromanaged to the hilt, project managers practically shove a microscope up your a$$ for every installation you do! Photograph this, photo for that, ge-z louise, it’s gotten to be absurd! Please lay me off now!

The plan changes regularly

The company is loaning techs out to other exchanges to serve 2 purposes. They are cutting overtime in 1 exchange and identifying future surplus locations. The plan is to phase out service techs by 2025.

Live in a former Verizon area and had the opportunity to talk with one of their techs shortly after they did the fiber overlay. Been awhile but said there was little work for the techs who didn’t want to learn how to work on fiber (primarily the older guys). Left them after Frontier took over because it was such a cluster. Finally went back. Don’t know how they did it but tech who came out was to install was a contractor. Said they handled a lot of the installation but repair was done strictly by Frontier Union techs. Not sure how Frontier was able to get that agreement.

Offering and people accepting is best for both the company and managers/techs that want to leave. Saves junior techs and mangers that want to continue working.

It doesn't mean they can't ask for volunteers to leave early even before the 15th of the month before the start of the next quarter.

They only can layoff technicians per the contract, in the SE announcements are made once per quarter on the 15th prior to start of next quarter.

Outside work has come to a screeching halt where I work as a technician. I fearful because of this that layoffs could be announced sooner than the last month of the quarter. I’m guessing the company would have to offer senior techs a package of some sort to leave before they actually plan to.

This company has become a house of cards. It just goes to show what having debt of $135B will do to a once financially healthy company. At this rate how much longer can Stankey keep the lights on? We are running out of assets to sell!

Your information is incorrect, the company and union have a MOA (memorandum of agreement) about outside techs till the end of 2023. The contract doesn’t end until 2024. I’m part of the union and haven’t been notified what you are claiming. Need more evidence to support that claim.

Plans are in place to surplus 25% of installation and maintenance. The company has an agreement not to surplus craft until end of contract, but they will start reorganization of management 2nd qtr. All remote work centers will be closed within 2nd qtr & outside technicians will be required to report to metro work center. Union has already been notified.

Corporate Real Estate is getting hammered and outsourced. I expect more building closures, just in time for RTO. Also hearing about hub cities and proximities again, so expect more workers not near a hub to get let go. Dallas, Atlanta, Bedminster, and El Segundo are the hubs. Expecting those announcements come late Q3.

"Everyone will have an opportunity to do field work, there will be a lot of jobs for those that install and maintain the network." The future for AT&T field work will be hire a supplier, issue PR based on driver pricing, approve OOM. Network complete.

I heard AT&T is going to sell off all of the Central Offices because there is copper in there, somewhere. Might have heard that from a Mobility AVP with the inside scoop.

We need to keep support centers State side, customers and employees have suffered enough with chat bots and language challenged offshore sites. Support American jobs!

C&E will be sometime in the summer for next round. Staff jobs could be anytime. Also need to reduce four tiered VP levels.
