Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

WFC stock already down 11% from the year-end dump in your 401K.

Wells Fargo is a company where the so-called benefit of a “company match” consistently disadvantages their employees.

Wells Fargo is always about the smoke and mirrors, never just straight-forward honesty and transparency. They are constantly looking for some back-door advantage to every move; whether it be a tax advantage, stock manipulation, profiting off their employees, using expensive low-performing proprietary funds.

Maybe a fair and ethical approach from our C-Suite would resonate down through the company and improve our standing with the Feds. If you’re willing to shortchange your own employees, who won’t you steal from???

Why do we have to play this preposterous shell game???

How about WFC play fair and reward us with CASH like a majority of companies now do. Or distribute our company match as we have elected. Why does our C-Suite insist on dumping this loser company stock in to our 401K accounts, forcing us to sell in the after-market?? I call Bullsh-t.

&1jkr - You can see fund-specific gains/losses by using the Balance >> Balance over time screens. Just play with the date range and then scroll down for the fund performance.

Does anyone else find our 401k plan suspect in that we cannot see the daily changes in each fund, therefore no transparency into how these funds are moving up and down? Sometimes when I look at my other after tax brokerage accounts and follow the daily stock market indices, I cannot make rhyme or reason as to how the funds in my 401k are not tracking with similar funds elsewhere. I have been here many years, always contribute and yet don’t have near what I think it should be. I have a variety of funds…growth, value, mid cap, small cap etc. I wish we had some standard funds like Vanguard and not the cr-ppy ones Wells seems to offer.

I have auto-balance setup to run annually on Jan 10th. It automatically sells WF stock and distributes per my investment choices on that day every year.

Transferred mine when it was at about $48. It was a nice little profit.

I have $0 of WFC in my 401k. Should the match be in company stock? It's debatable, but we're all free to change our holdings and now that we only get a match once a year it's not like it takes much effort. Set a recurring reminder. The match is such a tiny percentage of my account that I often leave it in there for a month or two just to see if it goes up. It did this year so I made a little $ off it when I sold it. The way this company is headed now, though, we should all probably sell the day after the match.

The BOD is not looking out for the shareholders by keeping CS installed.

“What do you mean by CASH??” Huh??

Many companies match your contributions with Dollars deposited in to your 401K rather than Company Stock. Matching with Company Stock has been on the wane for years now due to the risk it places on employees. Most advisors recommend employees hold ZERO company stock in their 401K.

The question is a good question. Why put us through the charade? Just give us the match in cash or follow our allocation instructions.

Oh, you held your match in WFC stock? Wow. I transferred mine the next trading day to my allocation in my 401k and actually made a profit in that single transaction.

This micro managing of stock price is a loser's bet. Boring stocks like banks are about short and long term cycles. So where are we today? I think we are experiencing a lengthy bottom of a long term cycle that will test a lot of people's patience. If you believe the economy can recover and WF will play a role (which it can considering an inevitable Central Bank Digital Currency and other treasury new money vehicles), let your dividends reinvest, take advantage of the stock hit and bad press now and let'r ride. If you don't believe in WF, that is fine too and transfer out to something else.

Transfer all Wells Fargo ESOP immediately. It will drop another 20% with-in the next 3-4 months. You can always buy it again when it’s below 30 a share. Bank stocks in general I would run from unless it has long term upside like first republic bank.

At the same time, you can't just arbitrarily pick a random three month snapshot. If you would've brought this up a month ago, you'd be up. 401ks aren't for the short term.

What is the market was down on each quarterly match? Would you complain then that the market gods didn't listen to you?

Also, what do you mean by cash? A lot of us cash bonuses on top of the match.

That is the OP’s point: It should not be on the employee to protect themselves from their employer on what is supposed to be a benefit.

No WFC in my 401K, it is long gone

It's on you if you kept the employer match in ESOP. I always instantly transfer any ESOP into one of the index funds.
