Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It's pretty clear that the biggest issue AT&T has is leadership

And let's be real, no amount of patching up or quick fixes is gonna make up for the many, many poor choices they made. It's gonna take some serious soul-searching and major changes in leadership for AT&T to bounce back from the mess we're in. I just wonder how many of us will still be here to see it.

Been with AT&T a LONG time and currently it has to be one of the worst run companies in the history of the republic. Stankey and Legg are pompous, arrogant, clueless leaders. Their latest idea is "return to work" requiring the acquisition of real estate. Why not, AT&T has large cash reserves and no debt. Mo--ns in charge.

Craft employees left last year.

First quarter is over and still no replacements leading to longer outage durations.
Leadership doesn't care. Why should we?

Malcontents? Are you talking about those that have been laid off, lost their retirement Med insurance benefits, reduced retirement death benefit, lost vacation days, little to no raises, outsourced to other companies, forced into collab, given more responsibilities, lost DTV discount, etc….

You mean those malcontents?? All due to DEBT!!! Caused by??

Stankey was an advocate of the M&A debacles and when they didn’t work out he placed the blame squarely on Randall Stephenson and dismantled his legacy!!

Yes, the lack of management strength is appalling. My management chain is horrendous. They care more about high level power points. Don't bother with any details. They lack technical insight and depth. If any of the direct reports actually develop expertise in the technical areas, they are not rewarded because the management then feels threatened by the technical superiority of any of their reports. There are exceptions, of course. But the AT&T "way" does not encourage or promote technical excellence. I'm still here but am not sure for how long. If someone were to see my resume, you would think I'm a recent college graduate who is up to date on everything, but in reality, I am very close to retirement. So I am sticking it out and actually praying to be laid off.

Problem is AT&T is not lean. Even after all of the cuts (NPI!). And when they do make the cuts, they trim off the wrong fat. They get rid of the competent managers to save the senior managers that have no business being managers in today's workforce. And the TDPs? They are some of the most useless bunch around. I have trained a handful and only one actually managed to learn the network.
