Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

benefits when you retire

Can someone who has retired explain the advantages of retiring in terms of benefits? Is it worth to wait to retire if you are close to MR75 rule of retirement? Especially for health benefits if you don’t qualify for Medicare.

It is best to talk to an advisor about this. One thing you should know is that taking the pension lump sum is the most beneficial. Gives it a chance to grow into the market and if you have kids, you would be able to pass it on to them.

Wait as long as you can to retire, the politicians haven’t addressed the social security issue and less than 10 years will either have 20%+ reduction in monthly pay or they will raise age limit or taxes.

Managers took it up the ar-e if they were pension eligible and didn’t go after 12/21 The erosion of retiree benefits only keeps people on the payroll longer but I guess surplussing them sometime in the near future serves to financially benefit the incompetent woke executives making these decisions

You must not have received the memo.
No Healthcare for those retiring after 12/31/2021. However, you do get half price off mobile data plan. Totally worth sticking around for another 15-20 years (sarcasm emphasized).
Unless you're close to 65, you're basically just working for a paycheck.

How can you not understand your retirement. There are so many variables, union v managment, which bell Co hired you, your hire date, etc. If you come here looking for your answers, you are clueless

You have access to health care - which should be a little cheaper than Obama care. Discounted health care ended in 12/31/2021 - its now ~500 per month. For some - you need to leave after you turn 55 so that your pension is not impacted.

“Medicare supplement ended 12/31/2020. Retiree healthcare ended 12/31/2021. Only thing left is don’t retire until age 65 when Medicare kicks in.”

This is for most managers. Some legacy managers get bump in pension after MR75. But the bulk of managers just get a $500 lunch and a 30% discount on AT&T services. Depressing sticking around for 24 years and having it all taken away.

Look at your pension on Fidelity's site and estimate the benefit before and after you reach MR75. The pension usually jumps up a bit once you reach the magical number. When you reach rule of 75, you can also purchase medical insurance at the company rate when you retire. It's expensive and you can likely get something cheaper on Healthcare.gov.

Agree, no more bennies in retirement. We'll except for a 15K death bennie for managers and a $25K death bennie for non-management. We all know it takes more money to bury a non-manager vs. a manager, what a bunch of cr-p Santone and Stankey. I still find it hard to believe these two id--ts found employment.

No HC benefits anymore after retirement. NADA. NONE. ZILCH.
If your close, hold out for Medicare & buy a supplement.
The Advantage Plan is a POS and since you will pay for Medicare anyway, just spend the extra $50 per mo, for a $2100 deductible supplement plan.
