Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What's with the sudden spike in ugly anti-DE&I comments on here?

I mean, there's always been an undercurrent of healthy resistance/skepticism, but the nastiness has really boiled up to the top on this board over the last couple of weeks. What gives?

Given the DEI targets, we will never know if the skin color/ gender was the ultimate reason someone got the job.

If Wells Fargo cares about minorities, they would have been doing this 10-15 years ago. What they’re pushing now is not organic and is purely for optics. As a PoC, I am livid.

Except that is untrue. The white employees here routinely criticize the hiring of incompetent white JPM lackeys.

White people have zero problem calling out BS with other white people. I have yet to see much criticism from PoC about the incompetent PoC being hired.

Maybe, but no one at WF was ever encouraged to hire the unqualified white guy. If someone did, they did it on their own and in spite of training/guidance. Sort of the difference between racism and institutionalized racism, which I'm being told is "bad" and yet the gov and corporations do it constantly.

No, hiring an unqualified white guy is calling "a stupid azz decision". Hiring an unqualified (preferred group here) is called a diversity hire.

Personally, I'm totally cool with calling the hiring of a (preferred group here) person "a stupid azz decision" as well, but the racist DIE lovers would never tolerate that, so here we are using euphemisms.

If you hate everyone equally, then you can't be considered racist or transphobic or homophobic.

And now you know, and knowing is half the battle...

"Hiring an unqualified white male hire is called a hire and an unqualified or qualified non white hetero male is called a 'diversity hire."

Yup. And yet many folks don't see that.

Straight white males afraid they will not be given the preferential treatment they are used to and expect are freaking out all over the place.

Because everyone understands it's racist at its very core and is a sad attempt at social engineering.

WF can't even do basic business processes but thinks they can change the world by using soft discrimination in hiring practices (and potentially lending practices)? It's pathetic.

No one wants to do twice as much work as someone in the exact same job while they do nothing because they are not qualified and unable to do the job. In my area there are many people that are DEI employees unable to do their job and literally do nothing. There are some DEI employees who are remarkable unfortunately negative gets more talk time and currently there are more unable to do the job.

I enjoyed the first year of DEI activities but since being forced into the office I don’t have time or interest for anything extra - including the charade of DEI while the company offshores every possible job. Just let me do the bare minimum so I can finish my work and get out of the crime- ridden office neighborhood before dark.

Again, as long as Wells Fargo continues to move a very large percentage of jobs to a country that has a caste system (India), DEI is a joke.

people are mad about "diversity hires" being dead weight but want to ignore the fact that management positions are mostly filled by white people who (some) also don't know how to do their jobs. Like if you're gonna call out dead weight call it out for everyone not just "diversity hires". Being white does not make you qualifies

@dlz - not just "tokens", but unqualified, not experienced, no merit to the positions they are placed in.....making it a HUGE burden for those of us that DO know how and what needs done. We end up carrying the weight of their work along with our own.....NOT any more.

DEI supports India and China - Not a problem, None.

But I need a job too, you are giving our jobs to them.

I think a lot of the pushback comes from the fact that upper management’s sudden surge of “Wokeness” is a knee jerk reaction to Charlie’s comments about there not being an ample pool of qualified minority candidates for key employment opportunities when he was pressed on it a few years back. Honestly, at the time he made those statements, anyone else would have been handed their head by the board and shown the door, but he survived being canceled for whatever reason, and here we are three years later crippled by DE&I. Honestly, it reminds me of political correctness (PC Police anyone?) in the 90’s. We got through/got over that too (Trump and his MAGA cult). I’m sure this will burn itself out to as an overreaction to a curable social issue. Just treat people like people. I don’t care who you are. I just care that you do your job, your competent, and you don’t sc--w peyover to get ahead. Why do we need the labels and quota culture?🤷🏻

Your job, yes, YOUR job...is actively in the process of being offshored. DE&I is a coat of paint to try and hide that fact.

For the tiny majority here whose job simply can not be offshored, WF is actively trying to automate your job away. So, have fun either way.

DEI is inherently divisive:

  • It's discrimination (what some people call 'reverse discrimination')
  • It does nothing to help anyone, except a few overpaid tokens at the top that don't care about anyone below them

People are scared. Most believe we are in a recession. Banks are failing. The labor market is contracting. Layoffs are in the headlines. Anytime there is economic/political uncertainty collectivism increases. Basically people are mad and scared and they need something to be mad and scared at.
