Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone else lucky to be offered and accept SIPP?

SIPP = supplemental income protection plan (SE Core Contract)

Trying to figure out all my options, will be off payroll this month. I meet the modified rule of seventy five but a couple of years from being 65. I get convoluted answers from benefits, others that were offered SIPP have had the same experience. Oh well, guess it will be more plain when I receive the written package, hopefully with more clarity.

Happy to start a new journey!

Southern Bell/Bellsouth were great companies to work for during my career, unfortunately CEO Ackerman and company allowed the Jetson’s to be purchased by the Flintstones. Sad to see it go from a family oriented business based on competency, merit and skills to the failed woke mess it has become. Hopefully for my fellow coworkers they can get back on track and focus on business and not being a social experiment or the company will end in bankruptcy.

I came everyday ready to work to earn a paycheck that provided for my family and be respectful of my coworkers. I don’t and didn’t need someone lecturing to me about my thoughts, feelings and freedoms and conform to their woke agendas. The new harassment video is a lawsuit waiting to happen

If you are ready to leave is $33k really that big of a game changer? Especially after the interest rates destroyed lump sum pensions this year. Seems like that would have been more motivation than SIPP

Good for you!

Wish the company would poll for interest all over AT&T with an offer or use the contractual one for craft. Many are ready or very close to leaving but need an incentive to take that next step.

Congratulations to you, only think of the positives and hope you enjoy the rest of your retirement!

The vast majority of employees here feel the same way about all the woke nonsense being forced, it’s a business not a social activist organization. Most of us were raised with the rule of, do under others as you would have them do unto you, be kind! There are a few id--ts but show me somewhere that doesn’t have them around. Most employees just want to earn a paycheck and go home to their families, enjoy life and their freedoms.

Didn’t lose, I’m craft in the SE and my pension didn’t change much at all, can’t say the same for management.

Brutal. If you plan on taking the lump sum pension you lost a ton of money by not leaving last year. The SIPP payout will come nowhere close to what you lost.

Congratulations!

I agree every year AT&T continues to encroach on employees personal lives and freedoms.

In the SE SIPP used to be able to be done across state lines.

You can thank the union for letting that change go through. It has cost me thousands of dollars.

It may not be an upfront offer but it’s still a company offer, I’ve had friends wait up to 2 years to get SIPP and others get it the same quarter they sign up. As long as SIPP remains in the contract it’s in the company’s best interest to continue to use this tool. SIPP has and is still being offered despite all the HR experts on here that try to tell us differently.

SIPP is a win all the way around. Employee that is ready to leave gets a bonus (severance) based on years of service, surplussed continues to be employed locally and the company wins on headcount reduction without having it be involuntary.

If you’re BellSouth, it sounds like one of the surplused employees that were going to go off payroll at the end of March because of the surplus announced on 12/15 is claiming your spot.

That worked out well for both of you. For those that aren’t familiar with BellSouth Sipp, this is different than getting an upfront offer. A surplused employee can claim your spot if you choose to volunteer for SIPP. So instead of that employee bumping someone off payroll that doesn’t want to leave, they can claim someone’s spot who is ready to retire or leave the company.

So eliminating a hostile work environment and accepting differences to foster inclusion and acceptance is somehow "woke", which makes it inherently bad? Maybe it is time for you to leave the workforce after all.

We need woke because of certain attitudes.

SBC bought good companies and destroyed them from the inside out. During this same time, SBC employees were bringing their pens to work because the company was getting so cheap.
There are great people at T formed by the various acquisitions.
Best of luck to you in your retirement.

So much for all the supposedly experts saying that the company wouldn’t make anymore offers.
