Offshore team members shouldn’t be conducting testing

That’s it. That’s the post.

For a company that requires us all to be risk managers - our Leadership fails.
Our external customers (the ones that we exist to serve) do NOT want to have automated services (BOTS), do NOT want to have someone that struggles to speak english to be touching their finances.
How is having our customers money in foreign hands Risk Averse?

Bank of America offshored a ton of work but quickly realized the work wasn’t quality or completed on time. BoA significantly reduced their offshoring as a result. WF is just behind the curve and will discover the same thing. It’ll just take time instead of learning from their competitor’s mistakes

Wells Fargo customers don't want to speak with foreigners. Once they find out about all these jobs moving overseas.... There will be more backlash. Ready for Wells Fargo to Fail

I visited New Delhi and surrounding areas about 7 years ago. Not all was bad. The people were mostly lovely in what was a very dirty and overcrowded city. The air was highly polluted, trash and starving cows in the streets. My things magically disappeared from our cab. Police said this happens frequently. We stayed in an upscale hotel where we were advised not to drink the water. We happened to observe the hotel food being prepared under unsanitary concerning conditions.

You can say what you want, but I have been there and did not feel safe. And no- the WFC offices in India do not speak to real life/living conditions in India for it’s citizens.

I can have compassion for the people who live there, and yet I would not give them open access to highly secure and confidential information. In fact, I would not grant access to such information to any developing country half the world away.

I think it is very concerning that our C-Suite puts “cost cutting” above all else.

Read about the US trying to track down and get money back for financial crimes coming out of Nigeria. Once we let business go out of the US, we have very little control.

The cyber security risk is relevant to both domestic and offshore team members. There’s no reason to think Indians are somehow inherently bad people.

The problem comes into play when you’re asking someone to perform a writing and critical thinking intensive job in their second language. They have a hard time following along in walkthrough meetings and completing their documentation. As the first commenter said it’s then up to the domestic team to essentially redo the work for them. Meanwhile management is pressing because to them you have adequate staffing.

Can offshore team members following instructions and complete task driven work? Yes. They can read A and B then decide if it equals C. However , having to document pages to explain how something works, they don’t have that understanding.

It’s all a mess and the fact a lot of our RCSA testing both in EBCE and ITV is completed by offshore team members is silly.

If I didn’t know better I would think most of y’all have never been to India. The cities with the business centers - Bangalore, Mumbai - are pretty much as modern as any 2nd tier US city. Maybe out in the sticks it’s as backwater as y’all think the entire country is but it’s pretty much like the backwoods of the US.

Have you seen the WF India office? Watched any of their Town Halls on demand? Yeah, their set up is definitely nicer than the building I work out of - just sayin.

Keep dreaming about India now being the India of 25 years ago. Your racist views seem to be stemming the tide of offshoring. 🙄

Even more and already happening. Take a look at the directory.

US = 4000 under NH
India & the Philippines = 2000 under CR

Online postings are heavily saturated overseas for these roles.

100% the nature of the work has shifted from conversation, strategy, design, project management to simply tasks. Everything has been reduced to tasks. No context, just tasks.

Offshore is perfectly suited to do tasks. US workers are not used to being a task factory.

ServiceNow has amplified task based work. Meetings and emailing for context is optional.

If it's in your queue, press some buttons.

Testing?!? That's minor work and damage they can do. They are fully staff stocked up in WF with more on the way in the Control organization and 2nd line risk management & compliance. Look at the directory and org charts and numbers. It is - astonishing. Look at the jobs posted and where they are located. India is driving bank decisions and they have access to every system the US does. Gone are the days where the work they performed was 'administrative' in nature and they had tighter controls. The company has greatly and quietly shifted it's attitude and appetite for India and Philippines team members.

@ult
Uh, I mentioned gelato in NY and I don’t give a F about gelato. The question was what would be a nice perk. It was a joke as I prefer the taste of money.

India is barely a second world country at this point. Desperate people do desperate things and they have all our financial info now. Awesome.

Furthermore, America’s hard work and innovation is why the world has half the modern advances they do today starting with electricity, cars, factories, cell phones, computers and the internet (born in CA). I don’t think our workforce is bad. I think our CEOs/BODs are greedy B tards.

Love,

Why not? Might actually get done without all the p ing and moaning the people in the US do about work in between their complaining about Gelato in NYC and RTO. Oooooh the humanity!!!

Used to work with a department with mostly recent grads from China

I observe luggage loads of paper taken home every few months, I am sure those are pictures of their cat.

@fym, I freaking so agree! I had check fraud with BofA and it was the employees in India doing it, since they had access to production data!

How about third-world country employees having access to all of our customers’ personal and confidential information? Wells Fargo states we are committed to “consistently enhancing our security measures and identifying new and emerging threats to help keep your accounts and information secure.” Total PR BS.

I don’t like it at all. Who knows how that information is being sold on the black market or otherwise collected and misused. Identity theft, anyone? Hacking accounts, anyone? People who are starving and don’t have fresh running water and live among trash in the streets have to do what they have to do to survive. I wouldn’t even blame them. These are the facts of life in India. If WFC is d-mb enough to give access to that info, I would absolutely try to improve my family’s life if I lived like they do.

That’s like giving a homeless encampment the keys to your house and your bank account log-ins. I want to help them, but I’m going to proceed with some safeguards.

I love having to redo their work. It is great not getting credit for it and them not being held accountable for not getting their work done correctly.
